A breathtaking Lake District Engagement Shoot at beautiful Ullswater Lake

Today I am thrilled to share this breathtaking Lake District Engagement Shoot shot at beautiful Ullswater Lake.

Images were captured by Helen Smiddy Photography.

Helen Smiddy is based in Cheshire and does a large amount of work in surrounding areas such as Chester, Manchester and Liverpool, in addition to travelling the country quite extensively for weddings.

If she needs to get on a plane to photograph a wedding, well that fills me with absolute glee too!

Her approach to your wedding is unobtrusive; capturing natural moments that tell a story, being close to the events of your Big Day without imposing on it.

Helen says of the couple and their shoot…

“Earlier this year I went to the Lake District with Lee and Debs for their Engagement Shoot; it was one of those days that is the perfect combination of summer and winter – freezing, without a cloud in the sky!”

“We drove to Inn on The Lake, which is the stunning setting where Lee had proposed.”

“We chatted the whole way there about their Engagement (which sounded PERFECT – he did well!), their plans for the Big Day in June and the insanely beautiful surroundings that we were venturing through!”

“They are so adorable together: completely natural and comfortable which has made me super excited for their wedding day!”

I hand over to beautiful Bride to be, Debs…

How did you meet?

“Lee and I met at work, he told a mutual friend / colleague that if he ever got a date with me he would ask me to marry him (to which she told him he had no chance! because of my situation).”

“A few months later, what now looking back feels like fate occurred – my situation changed on the very same week that Lee had a heart attack, at only 27.”

“When he came back to work we arranged a date and it went from there.”

“We never really argue or fall out, I guess when something life threatening happens you do realise that life is too short not to be happy and make the most of it.”

Tell us about the Engagement…

“For our three year anniversary Lee decided he would arrange a weekend away, a few days before he told me we were off to the Lakes.

“I had never been but always wanted to go.”

“As we pulled up to the hotel, Inn on Lake in Glenridding, I thought ‘Wow! He’s gone over the top this year!”

“It was dark and hotel was fairy lit. To make it ever better it was the end of November and it had been decorated ready for Christmas – my favourite time of year!”

“The room was amazing, with a four poster bed and overlooking the lake on which we went on a freezing cold trip on a steamer.”

“When we had arrived at the hotel there was a bottle of champagne in the room which Lee told me was from my parents for our anniversary (I though this was a little strange and how did they know where we were staying).”

“Lee sent it away and said we’d have it after dinner the following day.”

“The bottle kept trying to make an appearance – Lee asked for an iron the next morning and it turned up with the champagne (they must have thought he was trying to talk in code).”

“After dinner on the second night, Lee said he was full and could we go for a walk.”

“I resisted a little at first with it being November and me wearing a dress and jacket, but I went along with it.”

“As we walked down towards the lake he led me to a fairy lit gazebo when the bottle of champagne was waiting for us and where he got down on one knee.”

“Although I had been a little suspicious it still came as a total surprise! He had the ring ready and it was perfect, and he had of course done the traditional and gentlemanly thing and been to see my parents before hand to ask permission.”

“I know I have waffled a lot but I love our story and I’ve just welled reading over it!”

Tell us about your Wedding Planning Journey so far…

“We’re getting married on Friday 30th June at St. Mark’s Church in Worsley, which is a beautiful church 5 mins from our home!”

“Then the wedding breakfast is at Willington Hall in Tarporley – a country house style venue which is exclusively ours for around 85 daytime guests.”

“The wedding is very traditional in style but we intend on adding a couple of little modern twists (but they are secret!).”

“The colours are gun metal grey with a touch of fuchsia pink to make the room pop!”

“I have my 3 best friends from senior school as my bridesmaids (we’ve been friends for 20+ years), plus my cousin (who is like a big sister) and my niece who will be 9.”

“My nephew, aged 6 will also be helping out and Lee has 4 ushers.”
