Today I am excited to share this colourful & funky London pre wedding shoot.

Shots were captured on location at Waterloo and the Southbank by Jamie Penfold of Memories and Emotions Photography.

I hand over to Jamie to share his recollections of an epic day…

“Wedding photography can be boring right? Oh how wrong can you be?!”

“I’ve always said that at the end of the day, as a wedding photographer, I’ll deliver whatever it is my couples want.”

“Each couple is different. Every wedding is different. And it’s why I love my job. The variety is huge!”

“And people like Lola and Ken are the reason why I love my job so much.”

“They’ve given me the opportunity to do things a little bit more funky.”

“Last year I did a few shoots around London, most notably Shoreditch and Peckham.”

“I’m a Londoner at heart and I love getting down there with the camera.”

“Lola and Ken contacted me as they had seen how I do things at one of their friend’s weddings, and I immediately fell in love with their plans.”

“To say their plans are a little different is an understatement.”

“You could take you most outrageous ideas of what you could do with a wedding, turn left at the traffic lights, go over a few roundabouts and keep going…you wouldn’t come close!”

“For now I’m keeping their wedding plans under wraps; you’ll just have to come back here in December. It’s going to be wild!”

“However, we decided that it would make sense to do their London pre wedding shoot in the summer (yeah! What summer??!!) to contrast their winter wedding.”

“People always ask me what they can do on their pre wedding shoot.”

“Well, if you want to let your imagination run wild then we can do that. That’s what Lola and Ken did.”

“The images below speak for themselves and really reflect the sort of fun we had.”

“It was the only warm day we’ve had for ages and we took full advantage in the Vaults under Waterloo Station.”

“It’s my sort of place. Dark, moody but with shafts of light here and there.”

“We had planned to trash Lola and Ken up a bit with spray paint, however half way through the shoot before we got painting we were approach by a graffiti artist who asked them if they’d like some artwork done for them.”

““You can go one better if you like!” Lola said gleefully.”

“The guy was an artist called Olivier Roubieu. He told us not to use the paints that Ken had in a rucksack and use some of the paints he had which were perfect.”

“He was a bit nervous at first and kept saying “Are you sure?” Lola encouraged him “Just go for it”.”

“He was working alongside Hannah Adamaszek doing a stunning bit of artwork at the time.”

“Hannah took a step back as Olivier went to town. He then handed the spray gun to Ken. Oh dear!!!”

“Lola gave that look that I’ve seen regularly in 16 years of marriage.”

“It basically was “You dare!!!” He dared!”

“And off he went spraying paint all over Lola who shouted out “You’ve seen Byker Grove!!! You know you never spray paint at people’s faces!”. I’M BLIND DUNCAN!!! I’M BLIND!!!”

“The tables were soon to be reversed as Lola got her revenge.”

“While all this was going on, people were walking by open mouthed, occasionally taking photos of this scene of madness going on in front of them.”

“All the while I was shouting out encouragement egging them on to spray more paint.”

“The onlookers must have thought I was some sort of madman!”

“One thing I learnt; don’t wear your best light coloured jeans and white t-shirt! I had flecks of bright pink paint all over me.”

“I had to go through Heathrow Airport security later that day. Try explaining that!”

“After the Vaults we headed to the South Bank.”

“It was boiling and the crowds were out in force.”

“Again we had people gawping at this bride and groom who were in kinks of laughter, covered in paint!”

“We then spotted a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike! We had to get shots with him and he happily obliged!”

“A little further down the South Bank I spotted a set of fountains that had kids running in and out of the water jets.”

“Now I’d like to state for the record; I thought it….Lola said it.”

“We gave each other a quick glance and she said “It’s got to be done! Let’s do it”

“Ken looked shellshocked! “Really?! We’ve got to go back across London on the Tube like this.”

“I played the bad guy buy the fountains as women all around us looked on in horror. “Get in!” I said in a mock Simon Cowell voice.”

“Lola screamed as the water was a bit colder than we imagined.”

“Still, they were getting a lot of attention from the onlookers.”

“Again, all around people were taking photos. One mother who was there with her kids said to me “You really made them go in there?!”

“I grinned with a lot of satisfaction, “Yes! Yes I did.”

“So, no. Wedding photography shouldn’t be boring.”

“It’s something I love doing. It’s supposed to be fun. Use your imagination. Go wild! Make it part of your overall wedding planning journey.”

“London + Graffiti + Water = Happy photographer.”

Thank you so much to Jamie for sharing this incredible London pre wedding shoot.

Its so freeing to just be yourself and let rip with wherever your imagination takes you in wedding or pre wedding photographer not being constricted by convention, or the feeling of the “nice” traditional style of photography.

Its also incredibly important to be comfortable with your Wedding Photographer and what better way than by larking about , and really enjoying yourself to allow for real, emotion filled, free spirited images.
