Today I am excited to share something a wee bit different as Jen & Barry chose to involve their love of our feathered night time friends by having an Owl Engagement Shoot.
Images of the day were captured by Mike Cook Photography at the Scottish Owl Centre.
The Centre is based in Polkemmet Country Park, Whitburn, West Lothian and has an interesting history from its inception in 1995.
The Owl entre opened in March 2012 and there you can come face-to-face the birds that you’ve only heard as a distant Twit-Twoo.
From the giant Siberian Eagle Owl to the tiny Scops Owl you can learn about their habits and habitats and how to help in their conservation.
To set the scene, the proposal took place at a bird of prey centre, with Barry proposed by having an owl fly in with the enagagement ring hence the significance of where they chose to have some images captured.
Mike says of the shoot, “I was at the Scottish Owl Centre where the guys had booked a private session with the owls, and I was asked along with them to capture it as best I could.”
“I’ve got to admit that I’d never done a shoot anywhere like here before so I don’t really know what to expect, but it soon all becomes clear as the first owl is brought out and just buzzes around the room flying between the gloves that Jen & Barry are wearing and then up to a perch, narrowly missing me with each pass”
“You know, I’ve got to hand it to the pros who photograph birds for a living; this is no easy gig.”
“The speed at which they pass by is quite something and it takes quite a while before I come even close to getting any “in flight” shots.”
“I share a few of the best shots of the day with you with you but you should see the number that didn’t make the cut!!”
“Suffice to say the call from National Geographic will be a while away yet!”
Thank you so much to Mike for sharing this Owl Engagment Shoot, such great imagery.
I have to say I am a huge fan of owls, such graceful and majestic birds and I love the reasons behind where the shoot was held, somewhere that will hold extra special memory and meaning to the couple.
