Today I am thrilled to share this beautiful Sussex Barn Wedding with accents of yellow, grey and sunflowers.
Simon Fazackarley is a Sussex Wedding Photographer who has been shooting weddings for 14 years – some 400 of them.
He sees each one as brilliant, fun and different, and loves to see how couples put their own spin on their wedding day and strive to capture something that is unique to them and deeply personal.
He says of the couple and their day…
Lucy and Martin found me through my website, and I first met them over a drink at a pub in Brighton.
I was struck by how chilled they were and how under control everything about their wedding seemed.
After learning that they are Pharmacists it completely made sense – they work in a high-pressure environment every day, and their decisions are highly scrutinized – so planning a wedding must have been a breeze for them!
It was truly lovely to work with a couple who had everything so under control – made my job very easy!
I was blown away by how relaxed Lucy & Martin were and how easily everyone let their hair down so early in the day.
Often at weddings there is a warming up period – a period where everyone relaxes into the day and gets comfortable within the group – but not so here, everyone was up for a party from the moment they arrived.
It was just a huge group of lively, fun-loving friends surrounding the couple and having an amazing day.
i hand over to beautiful Bride Lucy…
How did you meet?
On a pharmacy social night out in our third year study our pharmacy degree together.
Tell us about the Proposal…
In Venice on a the bridge Arcadia. I had no idea of the proposal and when Martin went down on one knee I told him to get back up and that it wasn’t funny thinking he was joking.
Turns out it was the real thing and I obviously said yes!
Tell us about your wedding planning journey…
We are both very organised so we found the journey stress free.
We found our venue, photographer and caterers 18 months prior to the wedding which left the final touches to be done nearer the time.
We enjoyed sourcing decorators and florists to see our yellow and grey theme become a reality.
I was lucky that I found my dress, hairdresser and make-up artist who were amazing so that eased a lot of pressure as I know I would feel great on the day
Any special touches/DIY?
We made our own card box and gift box. We also decorated two chalk boards alongside our polaroid camera station as we wanted photos within our guest book.
We found an un-used pallet at our florist and painted and upcycled this as our wedding sign for the day.
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
Yellow (Martins favourite colour) and Grey as a complementary colour.
Sunflowers were a must for the wedding day as a nod to my Grandad who I loved so dearly who died 14 years ago.
We ensure the tables were decorated with sunflowers and a grey table runner. Sunflowers were also down the aisle in the wedding barn for our vows.
What was the best bit of your day?
Seeing all our friends and family laughing and enjoying the day with the sun shining down on everyone.
We always wanted a wedding where our friends and family felt at ease and could have fun in a non-stuffy environment and this is what we achieved.
It was a relaxed booze filled day where everyone had a smile on their face.
This was helped by Marin and I not being able to say our vows; it set the tone for the day and everyone said they loved the relaxed atmosphere.
Is there anything you would do differently?
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
Plan the big bits early, which leaves time to enjoy being engaged and planning the finer details of the wedding which is such a fun experience.
