Today I am thrilled to share this beautiful same sex Georgian Manor House wedding with pretty green details.
Images were captured by Helen England Photography.
Helen England is a Wedding obsessive.
She takes beautiful, creative photographs that faithfully capture the story of your wedding day. But more than that, she creates photographs that make people happy!
Through her work, you’ll be able to relive the romance, excitement, energy and happiness of your wedding day – not just for now but for many years to come.
She loves to capture people who love to laugh. She photographs people who are completely nuts about each other, and people having a brilliant time.
It’s her job to capture the full story of your day: the big moments as well as all the not-so-big in-between moments that matter just as much.
Her style is relaxed, natural and authentic, and captures real moments as they unfold. she embraces natural light and bright colours with a soft, gentle and romantic edge.
She says of the couples day…
I met Roger & Steve at the Hadlow Manor wedding fair and we chatted about their day for ages!
When the day arrived the first thing I have to mention is the totally stunning pink and purple rhododendrons that were in bloom at the front of the hotel!
I was SO excited! These flowers don’t last for long so Roger & Steve had timed their wedding perfectly for the beautiful blooms!
The walled garden at the back of the hotel was also looking amazing.
I love that they had their reception drinks in the front garden and then they moved to the walled garden so they made use of all the pretty locations.
The page boys were so cute and did an amazing job walking in to the ceremony with the rings. I think they stole the show!
Groom Roger says of the couples Manor House wedding…
How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend.
Tell us about the Proposal…
We were on holiday and were enjoying a lovely meal.
We had been together for 6 years and started talking about marriage and both simultaneously decided that it should be the next step in our relationship.
Steve’s 60th birthday was the following year so we timed the wedding around this.
Tell us about your wedding planning journey…
We viewed several venues over a period of several weeks and with me having previously lived in Hadlow for many years and with Steve organising a surprise 70th Birthday party for me we selected the same venue.
Both Georgie and Una were fantastic.
We were not sure how we would be received as a same sex couple but we need not have worried.
The attention to detail was incredible from the start right through to the day when they were both organising flower containers on the Patio and sweeping the area.
We were invited to a Wedding Fair at the Hotel where we met Helen England who we chose as our Photographer.
Helen put us very much at ease from the start and was really enthusiastic.
We met at her studio prior to the Wedding and ran through ‘must have’ shots and left the rest to her.
We also met Jackie from April Haven who we chose for both the cake and the flowers.
Again Jackie put us very much as ease and worked closely with us regarding colour and flower arrangements right down to finding Lilly of the Valley, a special flower in Steve’s life.
We decided that it would be nice to have a Harpist playing when guests were arriving and throughout the reception.
We decided on Caroline Hall who was brilliant. Caroline was very supportive and helpful to us in selecting appropriate music and moved around the venue several times even following guests into the garden for pre-reception drinks and photos.
Any special touches/DIY?
We provided wedding favours for all guests in the form of a small engraved wine glasses filled with chocolate truffles.
We also sourced ring cushions for our page boys (aged 3 and 4) to carry our rings on.
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
The colour was green to compliment the Garden Room at the hotel where the ceremony and reception was held.
What was the best bit of your day?
The Ceremony. The registrar team from Tunbridge Wells were superb.
Having not met them before or had the chance of a rehearsal we were both apprehensive as to how things would go.
We need not have worried as they made us feel comfortable as soon as we met them.
Our page boys took to them straight away and were encouraged by them to give us away which was a complete surprise and lovely.
The Staff at the Hotel had dressed the room exactly as wanted and it was a big ‘wow ‘ as we walked in lead by our page boys.
To see all our family and friends smiling and clapping for us was a sight we will remember and treasure always.
Is there anything you would do differently?
Perhaps have the ceremony an hour earlier to give a little more time to circulate with our guests over pre – reception drinks and canapés.
We both felt that we did not converse with our guests enough particularly those arriving in the evening.
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
Visit as many venues as you can and take into account the location dependant on where your guests are travelling from.
Check that there is accommodation for guests coming from afar.
Take time to discuss fully with the venue what you actually want and choose the one that you are comfortable with in terms of the planners and the venue itself.
Remember this is your big day and you will be in constant touch with them.
Try and meet the banqueting manager before hand.
He or she will take charge of your wedding breakfast and will need to have an idea of how you want the meal to progress as far as speeches and cake cutting is concerned.
