Duncan McCall is originally from Lochwinnoch near Glasgow and is now based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Having enjoyed photography for many years and after photographing a few friends weddings he decided to go full time a few years ago and has loved every minute.
He worked as a Graphic designer for over 12 years and this design background really helps him create visually stunning photography.
His style is vibrant colours and strong contrasts that really make the images stand out.
He says of the couple….
“I love shooting at new venues and when Danielle and Matt booked me for their wedding at Wylam Brewery I was delighted.”
“Wylam Brewery is a new wedding venue in Newcastle and when I went for a pre-wedding recci I was very excited to be shooting there.”
“The main hall where the ceremony and later reception is held is a stunning room full of character.”
“The room had been decorated by Muscari Events and WOW did it look good, both the ceremony and reception decor really worked for the laidback vibe of the venue.”
“Wylam Brewery holds many music events and there is a stage in the main room which Danielle and Matt used to good effect for the evening reception by hiring a band who had the place rocking all night!
Wylam Brewery is located in the Palace of Arts Exhibition Park.”
“A lovely park with a small lake in front of the Brewery makes for some great outdoor portraits also. Its a perfect location for Newcastle-upon-Tyne as the city centre is only a 15min walk away.”
“Having really enjoyed my first wedding at Wylam Brewery I cant wait to get back. Danielle and Matt were an amazing couple to work with, both very relaxed and enjoyed their day to the max.”
“The day started at the Malmaison hotel at the Quayside in Newcastle. Danielle had 7 bridesmaids so was great to shoot some of the preparations.”
“Danielle had hired one of the top floor suites with great views over the River Tyne and plenty of space for all the bridesmaids to get ready.”
“For the evening portrait session we used used a few spots inside the venue.”
“The stage was perfect for a dramatic portrait and inside the actual brewery where the brewing process takes place was fantastic too.”
“After that we ventured outside using the front of the brewery building and the lake right outside. Wylam Brewery really does have it all, great inside spots for portraits and if the weather is good outside is also fantastic.”
I hand over to gorgeous Bride Danielle…
How did you meet?
“We became friends whilst working at Gosforth Academy in Newcastle in 2011 but it wasn’t until the following year that we started dating.”
“I asked Matthew out for some drinks with friends and he assumed it was a date. We joke that I asked him out by mistake!”
When did you get engaged?
“Matt popped the question on the 31st January 2016 on the Millennium Bridge.”
“It was freezing and windy so he struggled to keep me still whilst he dropped to one knee.”
“It wasn’t until people started clapping around us that I realised what had happened! We were moving from Newcastle to Gateshead in February so Matthew picked the midpoint in the middle of the Tyne. Sweet!”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“We initially wanted a winter wedding and then discovered just how much planning was needed so opted for Easter 2017 instead.”
“Matthew went to Wylam Brewery’s opening party shortly after we were engaged and loved the industrial design of the building. He made me visit the next day and we booked the venue that week.”
“We roped in the bridesmaids and ushers next, all 12 of them, and then focussed on dressing the party.”
“I tried on lots and lots of dresses and finally settled my gorgeous two piece Maggie Sottero gown.”
“Matthew steered clear of the traditional morning suit and opted for a more country casual look which we thought was perfect for a wedding at Wylam.”
“I dressed my girls in floor length opal grey dresses and the florist based the flowers on this palette. They were stunning!”
“My sister Nicola offered to buy our wedding cake and booked us a tasting which we really enjoyed. We chose a naked cake with three different tiers and a set of cupcakes. We have a tier in the freezer ready to eat on our first anniversary.”
“We both travelled abroad for our hen and stag dos in February half term. I chose Lisbon and Matt was whisked off to Budapest. We’ve never actually discussed either trip!”
“We had planned to decorate the venue ourselves but then saw a stand by Muscari Events at a wedding fair at Wylam and knew Amy’s design ideas were exactly what we wanted.”
“Matthew’s mum gave us some beautiful old brewing jugs which Amy incorporated into the centrepieces. They looked great.”
“We went our separate ways the night before. Matthew spent the evening with the best men and I had a meal with my parents, sisters and bridesmaids. I think this was the moment I relaxed.”
“We chose to stay at the Malmaison on our wedding night and had a view of our engagement spot from our window which brought the whole wedding journey full circle.”
When did you get married?
“We were married on Thursday 13th April 2017 at 2:30pm. It was the one sunny day that week; we were so lucky!”
What was the best bit of your day?
“Having all of our friends and family in the same room was incredible. They had travelled from Malaysia, Singapore and all over the UK.”
“Watching them smile as we said our vows and laugh at the speeches. We wish the day could have lasted longer.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
“Don’t rush into any decisions but don’t leave everything to the last minute either.”
“Try to enjoy the planning; it all happens so quickly. Remember what it’s about too, marrying the person you love, not colour themes and favours!”
