Today I am thrilled to share this stunning Dorset Wedding with a hint of a chocolate theme and a palette of turquoise blue.
Sometimes in life things mount against you but an unstoppable, unyeilding, unsurmountable love will carry you through even when the going gets really tough.
Debe and Robins story has touched my heart and even in the midst of difficult situations their beautiful Wedding brought sunshine back when sadness overshadowed the day.
Images of the day were captured by Anna B Photography.
Anna is a Surrey based Wedding Photographer.
She says of her work…
“I have been a photographer for more than ten years now and it only seems like yesterday when I turned up to shoot my first wedding.”
“I’ve always viewed taking pictures as a passion rather than a profession and for this I count myself lucky.”
“In 2005 I moved to Dubai with my husband and family and founded photography company Ugly Duckling.”
“It grew to be one of the most reputable companies in the UAE and further – taking me with my camera in tow throughout the Middle East, India and Europe.”
“This is where I really honed my craft, a different shoot every day, from royal weddings and engagements to fashion launches, restaurant openings and corporate showcases. And I loved every minute of it.”
“After our family grew to five we decided to locate back to the UK. ”
“Most of my work is based in London and southern England, but that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to travel further afield.”
“My photos are driven by the moments and people within them. I love the wild and wonderful, the offbeat and unconventional just as much as I love the familiar and formal.”
“To me, it’s all about capturing and conserving moments in time – and I consider it an honour to be able to do this for you.”
Anna says of the couple and their day…
“Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but not for Robin and Debe who tied the knot after 13 years of being together.”
“An emotional moment, Debe was given away by her elderly father Alex who did a heroic and sterling job walking his daughter down the aisle to Robin.”
“It was a joy to have Debe and Robin’s three year old son, Elliott, as a page boy too.”
“The ceremony took place at Highcliffe Castle in Dorset, a place I have very fond childhood memories of, being only five minutes from when I grew up.”
“It was then back to the Christchurch Harbour Hotel for the revelries where guests were greeted with classic cocktails, a sign of what was to come for these serious party people – I definitely spied a few people moving onto the shots at 4pm!”
How did you meet ?
“Robin & I met 14 years ago, we went to the same pubs and clubs and saw each other there all the time.”
“It was Robins kindness on a New Year’s Eve that won me over, I had cut my foot and Robin spent the night looking after me which he has continued to do ever since.”
When did you get engaged ?
“We got engaged in July 2012 at Cheddar Gorge.”
“Having given up hope that Robin would ever propose it was a huge surprise to find him on one knee at the top of the tower.”
“Ever the joker his proposal started with ” I know this is a bit sudden! but will you marry me?” And Of course I said Yes.”
Tell us about your wedding journey
“Typically as a girl I had planned my wedding a hundred times over, so when Robin proposed I set about finding pictures of all the things I liked to show him.”
“This did not go as well as I hoped, as pocket folded invitations and coloured ribbon did not excite Robin.”
“I soon realised in order to plan this wedding together I needed to get Robins interest and the chocolate wedding invitation was born.”
“Robin loved the idea and set about making the most amazing chocolate bar wedding invitation from scratch.”
“They were a winner with our friends and family and set a bit of a chocolate/DIY theme, in fact most of the things at our wedding were made by ourselves with a little help from our 4 year old son.”
“These included order of service filled with chocolate m&ms, table plan, menus with various baby pictures on the back, table names and a mr & mrs sign made using old pictures of us for the mr/mrs and for the & sign we used the pictures our photographer had taken on a pre wedding shoot.”
“My aunt kindly offered to do all our flowers which we’re stunning and a friend offered to make our cake.”
“The cake was all Robins idea, he wanted to tell our story on the tiers so he designed pictures of special moments of our relationship and had them printed on sugar paper which was then put on the cake.”
“The cake was stunning until it fell over on the way to our venue!”
“We picked Highcliffe Castle for our ceremony, I have always loved the building it’s so light with stunning grounds, it’s also especially nice that the guests can see you arrive in the beautiful cars.”
“Our reception was held at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel, with stunning views over to hengistbury head and a lovely modern hotel with exceptional staff it ticked all the boxes.”
“We wanted our wedding to be very personal and decided to theme it around when we first met, we had cocktails we used to drink , table names of the pubs and clubs we went to and even managed to find the DJ who used to play in our favourite club.”
“All our friends danced the night away, a mixture of rocket fuel strength cocktails and nostalgia possibly.”
“Our wedding planning did have it’s very low points, Robins dad sadly passed away suddenly two weeks before our day. Fortunately our wedding was a positive thing for people to focus on and look forward to.”
“My dad was also sadly diagnosed with dementia a few months before our wedding and unfortunately it’s very aggressive, we feared he might not be strong enough to attend the day, however he fulfilled every wonderful fatherly duty.”
“With help from our wedding car company dad was able to arrive with me in the beautiful car we had spent months talking about. Me on one arm and his grandson on the other dad proudly walked me down the aisle , which is a moment I will never forget.”
“My dad was unable to give a speech so Robin wrote some beautiful words on his behalf along with a heartfelt speech remembering his dad, needless to say there was not a dry eye in the house.”
“In Robins speech he talked about weddings either bringing people closer together or tearing them apart, for us our wedding has definitely brought us all closer together, which lead to the best day of our lives and a lifetime of awesome memories.”
When did you get married
“We got married on Friday the 3rd of October 2014.”
“We had originally hoped for the 4th which was a Saturday but luckily for us it was booked as the Friday really was the last day of Summer and it rained all day Saturday.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“There were so many wonderful bits to our day but sharing our very special day with our son was definitely a highlight plus having all our family and friends around us made it such good fun.”
“With my dad’s illness, being able to share special moments with him will make me smile for a lifetime especially when he told me he had the best day of his life.”
“I loved seeing all our hard work come together.”
What advice would you give other couples getting married ?
“Enjoy every single moment of the day as it really does pass in a flash and if things go wrong try to laugh it off, no one will notice if something is missed or forgotten and it makes for fun stories after.”
“It’s your day so do what makes you both happy even if it’s not the norm.”
“Prioritise getting a good photographer, ours made the day relaxed and fun as we had complete faith in her, she did not disappoint and we now have stunning images that truly reflect our day.”
“Also, for me getting a good hair and make up artist was essential the ladies I found absolutely made me feel like a princess and everything stayed perfect through out the day.”
Thank you so much to Anna for sharing this gorgeous Dorset Wedding and her incredible imagery.
