To kick off the week I am absolutely thrilled to share this stunning Rainbow coloured, DIY Cornish Wedding with a Sottero and Midgley Bridal gown.
Images of the day were captured by Olivia Whitbread Roberts.
Olivia Whitbread Roberts is a Wedding and Fashion Photographer based in Cornwall, also covering Devon and London!
Olivia shares her recollections of the couple, and their day….
“Lucy, and I met about four years ago whilst working at a local business together, and although she has since moved on, we have both remained firm friends!”
“Lucy and Robbie asking me to Photograph their wedding was fantastic and such a pleasure. (especially (when they would have had an amass of Cornish wedding Photographers at their feet)”
“I knew straight away that their wedding would be full of quirk and originality, certainly a Wedding to remember.”
“Knowing that everything was made from scratch and quite literally hand picked made it even more exciting and inspiring to Photograph.”
“The Venue was beautiful and full of light, a perfect compliment to Lucy’s vibrant use of colours.”
“The wedding was incredibly calm and relaxed, it was a joy to be a part of it and its going to remain very memorable to me for quite some time.”
“With my photography I aim to produce Fashion inspired Wedding imagery; I look for the hidden treasures on the day, bits people may overlook or forget to photograph.”
“Its is important to establish and keep a sense of individual style with your work and not copy anybody else, at the end of the day a piece or art should be a reflection of yourself or the subject.”
“I pay attention to being discreet on the day, with my style being flamboyant and spontaneous, but I take great care over each and every shot and certainly don’t leave any stone unturned.”
I now hand over to Lucy, the gorgeous Bride….
How did you meet?
“My best friend goes out with Robbies older brother and we met at his 29th birthday party.”
“My friend Mel was a real match maker, and it went from there.”
When did you get engaged?
“We got engaged on February 9th 2012.”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“Robbie has a massive family and we had a small budget so it was important to me to be a DIY bride, this was essential, there is no way we could have afforded the day we had otherwise.”
“Everything was done from our ‘wedding HQ’ (the dining room), all save the dates, invites, centre pieces, sweet buffet table, spay painting etc.”
“We are also very lucky that some of our close friends are very talented and were eager to pitch in and help for little or no payment.”
“Living in Cornwall and being 100% Cornish, our first idea was Yellow and black.”
“This quickly escalated and the rainbow/multi coloured vintage idea was decided upon.”
“After some ups and downs with our venue (4 wedding planners in 1 year) and my girls bickering over dresses and colours it all turned out beautifully.”
“And I found that having my friends as my suppliers really put me at ease as they know me and knew exactly what I wanted, this is so apparent in how my gorgeous flowers turned out.”
“And how Olivia captured our day in images that will serve us for a life time.”
“All in all planning the wedding was a lot of fun.”
“There were a few incidents with glue guns and empty jars taking over the house, when we thought, lets just pay someone else, but on the day and seeing everybody’s efforts all come together the feeling of self worth and satisfaction made it all worth it.”
When did you get married?
“We got married on April 5th 2014.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“The best thing was having everyone we love all together, especially seeing our 2 sons so happy that we tied the knot.”
“The photo booth was also a massive highlight and so much fun.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
“Our advice is try not to be influenced by other people, parents for example.”
“You don’t have to spend a small fortune in order to have an amazing day.”
“We got married later in the day and didn’t have a wedding breakfast which saved us a lot of money.”
“Use pinterest to visualise the day that you want.”
“Follow your heart, and your day will be perfect.”
Thank you so much to Olivia for sharing her fabulous photography and this gorgeous Cornish Wedding.
I would also like to thank Lucy and Robbie for sharing their story and there extraordinary creativity.
So much work has gone into crafting such amazing special touches, and what a blessing for the couples talented friends to be able to be a part of their day in such a giving way.
