I now hand over to beautiful Bride Claire….

How did you meet?

“We met at my friends house whose then boyfriend (now husband) brought along his brother Martin.”

“Martin was shy and didn’t notice I liked him. I made up a story later in the week to get his number from his brother. I pushed him out on a date and we’ve been together ever since. 9 years this April. (2008)

Tell us about the Engagement?

“We had been talking about it (well i had been talking about it) and saying how important it would be that my brother and family from Australia would be there.”

“It was summer 2016 and not long after my dad had mentioned they were visiting in February 2017 and so this put a focus on it.”

“On the 9th July we were having a bit of a dull boring day and I was moaning.”

“Martin produced the ring (in the style i had always hinted i liked – a sapphire). It certainly cheered my day up!”

Tell us about your wedding planning journey

“It was short and sweet – July 2016 till March 2017.”

“I had loads of ideas… And perhaps a Pinterest album already!!!”

“We got engaged on the Saturday and by the Monday I had picked my dress!”

What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?

“It was a bit of a mash up in colour. Navy bridesmaids, ivory dress for me, blush pinks and ivory for flowers.”

“And hessian/burlap/wood slices for the rest! I was going for a vintage/romantic/whimsical feel!”

What was the best bit of your day?

“For martin it was seeing Lily our daughter coming down the aisle and then me!”

“For me… The actual ceremony itself obviously (but to be fair it was hard to concentrate while Lily played the trumpet with her bouquet and hide and seek behind the curtains! But  I would say the speeches were particularly special.”

Special Moments

“For our ceremony we wanted something simple but meaningful and that is what we got.”

“Our two readings were chosen by Martin and were My True Love Hath My Heart by Sir Philip Sidney read by my Aunt Elaine, and The Confirmation by Edwin Muir.”

“Martins love of literature and his recent PHD also influenced our first dance, and John Mayer ” Love is a Verb” was a nod to this.”

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

“To not sweat the small stuff. There was a few things on my list week before wedding I had to just forget about and they really made no difference to the wedding.”

“Take enough time to plan but not long enough to chop and change your mind or lose why you are doing it in the first place.”

.
Thank you so much to Claire and Martin for allowing us to share their beautiful day.

I love the soft blush pink palette and there is so many creative touches its impossible to know where to start –  the gorgeous flowers, the amazing cake, and what can you say about those shoes…wow!

Wedding Suppliers

Venue – Sherbrooke Castle – Glasgow (They were excellent so calm and organised.)

Photographer – Stacey Macleod Photography

Dress – Davids Bridal – Glasgow (My dress was originally a sweetheart neckline sleeveless dress but I felt too self conscious for that. So I got the Davids Bridal seamstress to add a lace temple fill, making it perfect and exactly what I wanted. This created the dress of my dreams and a one off!)

Bridesmaid Gowns – Freemans (This was hard given one bridesmaid was in Australia and so had to guess sizes and pick a comfortable dress unlikely to need alterations as she only got to try it for the first time days before the wedding.)

Kilt Hire  – Houston Traditional Kiltmakers – Paisley

Shoes Decopaged by Bride – (Alice in wonderland theme as this was my favourite film growing up. I bought Alice Bow insoles to complete them from AliceBow Store.)

Cake Maker – Bride (I used to have a cake company called Li’l Puffin Cupcakes which i closed to have Lily in 2014.
I made the peg doll cake topper myself too. With pieces of my dress lace and martins actual kilt material. The wooden crate was made to measure by Wood with Passion and I used a pyrography wood burning tool to add the Mr & Mrs.)

Florist  – Bride (I made my own flowers, bridesmaid, flower girls and top table arrangements from silk, foam and paper flowers with the paper flowers were made from one of Martin’s books as he had not long passed his phD in English literature. It had been a big part of both our lives for a number of years and so thought it was important to include it)

Rings – David Wallace – Jewellery manufacturer – Paisley

(He designed and made a simple band that fit snuggly like a jigsaw with my engagement ring from Ernest Jones. Martin’s too was made by David a simple brushed band.)
