Culture in the City – A Balmoral Hotel Wedding – Images by Marc Millar

Today I am thrilled to share Ben & Nisha’s Wedding at The Balmoral Hotel captured beautifully by Mark Millar Photography. Their day was a gorgeous combination of  Scottish , Indian and American culture.

Nisha, the Bride is from Edinburgh, and is a cosmopolitan girl at heart and that’s not just her choice of drink! Ben is from Mount Pleasant, Michigan USA but moved to Scotland in 2002 to pursue his bagpiping ambition. That didn’t quite work out so he decided to develop software instead.

They met ice skating in Princes Street Gardens on a cold and frosty night. Ben took her hand and made sure she didn’t fall (too) hard on her backside! They became friends for a while, and soon decided had more in common than they originally realised!

He proposed, she said Yes and they got Married on the 14th of September 2012.

Their ceremony and reception was held in the historic and iconic Edinburgh landmark, the Balmoral Hotel. This luxury hotel was built in 1902 as a traditional railway hotel and was built for the North British Railway Company adjacent to Waverley Station.

From the Holyrood Suite, where the ceremony took place you have an incredible view of most of Edinburgh’s main sights: Arthur’s Seat, the North Bridge, the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle, Waverley Station, Princes Street and the Sir Walter Scott Memorial.

They chose the Balmoral Hotel because of its location in the heart of the city they love, and for the reason that we will likely pass it hundreds of times over the course of their lives together  and it will remind them of their spectacular day!

The Day was a whirl of a beautiful Ceremony before the lavish Wedding Breakfast , and the cutting of the Cake, delicately decorated with Bunting which conveniently shares their name.

This was followed by a fantastic first dance before they went upstairs for a costume change into traditional Indian costume before a mini Indian ceremony.

After this is when the party really started with Bollywood dancing and a fantastic Ceilidh.
