“Game for Love” – A Stadium of Light Wedding – Images by Memories and Emotions

Today I am thrilled to share the  fantastic Stadium of Light Wedding  of Jo and Ray captured in style by Jamie Penfold of Memories and Emotions.

The Setting for the day is the Stadium of Light, an all-seater football stadium in Sunderland, England and home to Sunderland A.F.C.

Jamie recalls a little of the couples special day,

“Ray is a huge Sunderland AFC supporter.  And as a result Jo has followed suit.”

“So for them The Stadium of Light was the obvious place to stage their wedding celebrations.”

“Despite me being a West Ham supporting Geordie, I actually like The Stadium.  It’s a fantastic place to shoot a wedding.”

“Plenty of hiding places, plenty of quirky shots on offer and great surroundings!  So for their wedding I had a lot of ideas.  Add to that Jo and Ray’s own ideas and we had all the ingredients for an amazing day!”

“So at the Roker Hotel Jo was getting ready, chatting with her bridesmaids and mum who were coming in and out of the room,  the usual hustle and bustle you get on the morning of a wedding. ”

“The tunes on the Ipod were amazing and there was such a lovely laid back feel to everything.  Outside in the sun guests were arriving to be taken to the church on a London Routemaster bus.”

“Over at the church Ray and his groomsmen were welcoming guests, chatting to friends and family and generally trying to soak up the atmosphere.”

“The vicar introduced himself to me and immediately came across as very pro photography allowing me to shoot from the front of the church.”

“I’ve mentioned in earlier blog posts about couples getting the giggles during the ceremony; well Jo and Ray’s was no different.  There was a lovely lighthearted feel to the ceremony.”

“From the moment I met them, Jo and Ray came across as having a real love of life and not taking things too seriously.  I mean, this is the couple who had their pre wedding shoot at the top of Penshaw Monument in what felt like a force 10 gale!!!”

“It had been laughs from day one!  At one point Jo looked up at me and gave me a thumbs up followed by a chuckle.  And there were a couple of times when I contact was made with either Jo or Ray and the giggles started.”

“After the ceremony we headed down to Roker Pier for some “formal” shots.”

“We timed this perfectly as the clouds were starting to come in and later we would end up having rain.  Every so often people would stop and congratulate my happy couple who took all the attention they were getting in their stride.”

“At the Stadium of Light, we had a mini tour of the ground and up on the scoreboards was a message for Jo and Ray complete with “Back of the Net”.”

“There was a stage set up for Sunderland University’s graduation ceremonies so it prevent any pitchside for shots but as every I worked around this.”

“With the big group shot done in the stands and shots done down in the basement next to the dressing rooms the speeches started.  One of the most moving moments was when Ray’s dad talked about the history of the Stadium and the land it was built on and why it got it’s name.”

“He talked about a Davy Lamp he has and then presented Jo and Ray with their own decorative gold Davy Lamp “to guide them”.  It was such a lovely moment it gave me a lump in my throat.  I know, I’m a softy!”

“And that was, as they say, that. ”

“The evening fun began up in one of the bars overlooking the pitch and stadium.  There was no shortage of takers for who was going to be first on the dance floor.”

“Just about everyone was game for a knees up. It was what a wedding should be; fun but above all a celebration!”

Thank you to Jamie for sharing this gorgeous fun Stadium of Light Wedding.

I love the red and blue theme that flows throughout the styling of the whole day with that subtle nod to the couples love of football, captured in beautiful imagery.
