A Relaxed Country Garden Big Day – Real Wedding Feature – Images by Fiona Kelly Photography

Today I am thrilled to share the exquisite Wedding of Lottie and Jake from Fiona Kelly Photography.

Fiona specialises in photographing weddings in a way that tells a little story of that moment in time and something about the people in the photos.

Fiona tells us a little about herself, “Being from the Lake District I am a northerner at heart (still have the accent) but one who loves London and, to be honest, prefers the weather in the South East! I love the vibrancy of the city and then completely appreciate the slower pace and beauty of the countryside. Its the best of both worlds.”

“In 2008 I got married in Las Vegas, amongst a small group of friends and family. It was this amazing day, and our honeymoon road trip round California that really pushed my photography love affair to the next level. I had worked as a photographic art director for many years, being the person behind the photographer putting together the creative vision, but my desire was to do more than just direct. It wasn’t enough any more, I wanted to take the photos.”

“I have always thought that life is to be experienced fully and every challenge, no matter how scary, to be met with excitement at what might be round that first corner. It was this rather crazy attitude that finally pushed me into making photography a career and I am so glad of it. Theres never a dull day, no work day is the same and I love meeting and getting to know so many wonderful people who welcome me into their lives for their most special day.”

She hands this particular story over to the couple who share their love story….

How did you meet?

“We attended the same primary and secondary schools so we vaguely knew each other but we only became friends and started going out when we were both in Sixth Form.”

When, and how did you get engaged?

“We’d been together for six and a half years, were already living together and had been talking about getting married a lot. The day after we went to a friend’s wedding Jake proposed with a haribo ring in the living room of our flat!”

Tell me about your Planning journey.

“We already knew before we’d even got engaged that we wanted to have the reception in the garden of Lottie’s grandmother’s house.”

“A lot of the details were built around that. We were both clear from the start of the planning that we wanted the day to be relaxed and fun and that we weren’t necessarily going to adhere to conventions; we felt strongly that the day should be about us rather than anyone else’s idea of what a wedding should be.”

When was your Wedding Date?

“We were married on the 6th of August 2011.”

“Catering was done by a friend of Lottie’s aunt, all of our stationery was designed and printed by a friend of ours, Jenny who is a graphic designer, the bridesmaids’ dresses were made by one of Lottie’s bridesmaids and all of the musical performances were provided by family!”

“One part of the day which worked out really well was our solution to the problem of finding a venue for our ceremony which could hold all of our guests and not be too far from the reception venue. After fruitless searches and brief dalliances with the idea of hiring a bus or doing a no-frills registry office wedding the day before, we ended up having a ceremony unofficially officiated by one of our best friends in the marquee.”

“Immediately after the ceremony Jake, Lottie, Fiona and both sets of parents drove 2 minutes up the road to the nearest venue licensed for ceremonies and had the ‘proper’ wedding with a registrar whilst our guests enjoyed champagne and canapés.”

“On our return all of our guests lined the hallway through to the garden and threw confetti. It all worked perfectly and it meant that we could have the ceremony that we wanted with all of our guests there but also fit in the legal bit!”

Thank you to Fiona for sharing her outstanding images and for the couple for sharing their story and their beautiful relaxed day.
