Well Travelled – Real Wedding Feature – Images by Struve Photography

Today I am delighted to share the Wedding of Joanna and Dereks beautifully captured by Kristin Mitchell and her company, Struve Photography.

Kristin is a Wedding photographer based in West Lothian  but covering all of Scotland. She loves creating special and personalised wedding photographs for my couples to tell the story of their big day.

Krsitin tells us how she met the couple,

“I first received an email from Derek (the groom) in April last year, enquiring about my wedding photography. In July, they decided to hire me, and I went to meet them at their gorgeous Edinburgh flat. We had a good natter – I just felt we clicked instantly.”

“From that point we had their engagement shoot in Edinburgh, first at a gorgeous city centre garden, followed by a visit to their favourite pub, The Guildford Arms. It’s a stunning venue.”

“The aim of the shoot was to try and capture their personalities as much as possible, without the formality of the wedding. Joanna and Derek both love beer, and they love that pub – it’s very ornate – so it made a fantastic backdrop for their engagement photographs.”

“What struck me about them was how genuinely thoughtful they both are. I was quite humbled when, the day before their wedding, I received a message from each of them thanking me for their engagement photographs and for the way I presented their engagement DVD. I’d have thought they would be thinking about a hundred and ten other things given it was less than twenty-four hours before their special day, but they still took the time to thank me.  That really was special to me.”

“When their day came, Joanna had created gorgeous bracelets as favours for all the female guests, each had the guests’ initial on them. Joanna put a lot of work and thought into those, and while I wandered round, I really picked up on the positive response from the guests.”

“The gents received very cool floppy-disk-notepads with pencils with the wedding date and couple’s name on them – proper boy geek chic, since Derek works in I.T. The favours though weren’t reserved only for the day guests – night guests also received a favour as well. They really were wonderful souvenirs.”

“Derek and Joanna were very much loved by all their guests – one of them made an impromptu and much applauded speech to thank them and congratulate them.  Derek and Joanna made a lot of friends while travelling, and people had travelled from far and near to be with them on their special day, I felt that was testimony to how deeply loved they were.”

“Joanna and Derek brought their travels into their wedding reception too. Their table plan was a map, with different countries tagged for each table. Each table was decorated according to each country with confetti – so America had blue, red, and silver stars; while my table – the Netherlands – had orange tulip confetti. I loved the place settings too, with airmail stickers foreign stamps on them. I thought these were such creative and inventive little flourishes.”

“The venue was great. I was really impressed by the staff, and how everyone knew exactly what was going on, at any point in time. They ensured everything ran like clockwork, and from a photographer’s perspective, they gave me plenty of time after the ceremony to take photographs, before they served the meal! It was a wedding photographers dream! Despite the bad weather, the venue was fantastic as a backdrop for the couple shots – there was so much variety of photographic opportunity, I felt spoiled for choice.”

“Joanna and Derek are an incredible couple – it was a real honour being part of their day. I’m so pleased that I can now count them as friends as a result of having worked with them.”

Joanna also shares a little about their story,

“Myself and Derek met online, and got engaged in Paris completely out of the blue whilst on a trip.”

“The Engagement was short and sweet and we got married on the 16th September  2011.  We found a lovely hotel, the Best Western Capital Hotel in Edinburgh and they did most of the hard work for us.”

“I made our wedding favours for the ladies and since that point have now started business, and part of it is making wedding favours http://www.joshighlystrung.coriandr.com   ”
