Sugar Plum Cottage was the realisation of a childhood dream, selling beautiful gifts for the home, people and Weddings, that reflect a love of fairies, ballet, romance and all things ‘country cottage pretty’.
Combine this with an absolute love of dogs it seemed a natural combination to sell gorgeous dog accessories for other people who love their dogs as much as they do.
Sugar Plum Cottage sells beautiful items from lots of lovely companies including Talking Tables, Lisbeth Dahl, Bombay Duck and Puchi Petwear and Ditsy Pet.
I had a chat with the lovely Helen to find out about her fabulous company.
Who are you, and what do you do ?
“I am Helen Barwell and I run Sugar Plum Cottage (as well being a ballet teacher too!).”
“We sell beautiful items for you, your home and your wedding, (and for any dog lovers out there we also sell some lovely dog accessories too).”
Why, and When did you start your Business?
“My business started on Ebay about three years ago and slowly evolved into my website Sugar Plum Cottage.”
“This natural progression allowed us to sell a wider range of stock and to experiment with more brands.”
“I have always loved pretty things and as a child always loved buying “bits and bobs” like pretty little notebooks or little nik nak ornaments for my bedroom.”
“My mum always collected tea cups and cake stands throughout my childhood so afternoon tea was not a recent discovery for me so I guess you could say part of my business is reliving my childhood.”
“My interest in weddings is not from a personal view point as I am still waiting for my prince but I am a true romantic and the current trend for vintage weddings is a true reflection of my style.”
“At least I am getting lots of ideas and inspirations for when my dream day comes along too!”
What inspires you?
“I am inspired by the countryside, flower meadows and children dancing for the sheer joy of movement!”
Do trends influence the products you stock?
“Yes they do as I must please my customers, and at the moment with all these lovely vintage trends it couldn’t be more perfect.”
Whats the future for Sugar Plum Cottage?
“I would like to continue to stock products that people love to see and buy whilst maintaining my love of all things pretty and romantic.”
“Of course a larger customer base would be fantastic too!!”
