Who are you, and what do you do?
“My name is Faiza Hasan-Alam, and I am the owner of Cake Bar London, a custom cake company.”
“Although there are many custom cake companies I like to think that The Cake Bar is particularly unique in its offering of allergy free, dairy free, egg free, gluten-free, and sugar-free cakes.”
“The beauty of the cake is not only what it looks like on the outside but how it tastes.”
Why, and when did you start your Business?
“I was born and raised in Washington DC.”
“I am a self taught cake decorator, and baking and decorating cakes has always been a hobby of mine.”
“In July 2010, I sealed the deal and got married and subsequently moved to London.”
“While job hunting I started making cakes for my friends and family’s special occasions.”
“By 2012, I realized that I had been getting a regular stream of orders and that I truly loved cake decorating.”
“So, I registered The Cake Bar, created a website and I haven’t looked back since!”
“Though I have been a cake decorator for just a few years I’ve been an artist my whole life.”
“The passion I have for creating something beautiful or unique is indescribable.”
“To me each cake I make should reflect the clients personality, their desires, and hopefully it should surpass their expectations in both design and taste.”
What inspires you?
“I have been fortunate enough to have guidance from quite a few extraordinarily talented people in my life who inspire me everyday. They make me want to push myself to do the best I can.”
“My biggest source of inspiration comes from my family and most importantly from my clients and their reactions.”
“Cakes make people smile and denote love. It makes me incredibly happy and excited to be able to give others that.”
Do Trends influence your Work?
“Every cake I design has a story or a theme.”
“Many of the themes match todays trends on the fashion runway , seasonal colors, and even the newest sewing patterns.”
“The Cake Bar’s signature style is modern, sophisticated and whimsical all at the same time.”
“I am a risk taker and I love pushing the limits. The biggest compliment to me is when people stop and ask me if what I made is real or sugar.”
Favourite Career Moments
* I was picked by Wimbledon Le Creuset to design their window display which won 1st prize out of all their store fronts in the UK.
* Being voted as a top wedding cake decorator in Wimbledon.
* On a personal note designing my brothers, gravity defying 7 tier, wedding cake.
Whats the future for The Cake Bar?
“In the future I would of course love to expand my business but I would really love to teach.”
