One day a dream became something more…. Perfectminimoon.com was born when two people in love wanted to go on a wonderfully luxurious pre-honeymoon trip – a minimoon – but they didn’t know where to look.
Today I am delighted to chat to Kate from perfectminimoon.com who tells me all about her wonderful Business,
Who are you, and what do you do ?
“We are Matt and Kate; a husband and wife team; an engineer and a journalist; a football fan and a shoe lover; and a couple who loves everything about minimoons!”
” We run perfectminimoon.com, a website which helps minimooners, loved up couples, and those in need of a long weekend of luxury, to find the hotel of their dreams.”
“We’re passionate about showcasing the best hotels that the UK has to offer, and every one that features on our site has been handpicked, and personally visited, by us.”
“That’s the thing that makes perfectminimoon.com different to other websites out there – we write up each stay from a couple’s perspective. After all, all couples look for different things when they go away for a weekend – Matt loves bars and I love spas! And there are very few couples that agree on absolutely everything… we are no exception!”
When and why did you start your Business?
“When we got married four years ago, we were unable to go on our honeymoon straight away. We knew we wanted a bit of a break together after our wedding, somewhere we could enjoy our first few days together as newlyweds, so we plumped for a minimoon in the UK.”
“We didn’t know where to go, or where to find any advice – it struck us that there must be other couples feeling the same! So we started making plans and coming up with ideas.”
“Our beloved perfectminimoon.com was born and, in October 2012, our website went live. The rest is, as they say, is history.”
What inspires you?
“Love! It may sound corny, but love is at the centre of everything we do – we love spending time together, we love minimoons, we love the UK, and we love helping couples find their own bit of romance.”
“We love finding unique venues, special venues, hidden venues, off-the-beaten-track venues, and we love telling people about them – as a journalist, verbal diarrhoea comes as standard!”
“There’s nothing nicer than getting a note from a couple who has visited one of our featured hotels and hearing that they’ve had a wonderful, relaxing and romantic weekend.”
“Our job is to showcase wonderful UK hotels and venues, and to bring people together – it gives us a warm and fuzzy feeling inside!”
What is your favourite minimoon location, and why?
“Well, Matt loves one and I love another! Matt loves spending time in the Georgian city of Bath, in the west of England. It has some beautiful hotels, gorgeous architecture, and a fascinating history – not to mention great bars, beers and food! It’s a wonderful place to spend a romantic weekend.”
“I, on the other hand love the sea, so Cornwall is my favourite place to go whenever possible. I adore the fresh air, the space, the views, the people and the way of life. I always feel at home next to the sea and it’s when I’m at my happiest.”
“And that’s the great thing about minimoons – it can be exactly what you want. Luxurious and decadent, small and cosy, dog and child friendly, set in a forest, city-based, or with a country pub at the end of the road. It’s your chance to fall in love all over again, in your own time and at your own pace.”
What makes the perfect minimoon?
“For us, it’s a glorious few days away with someone special, where you can relax and reconnect. You might have just got married, or be celebrating a birthday, an anniversary, or the birth of a child – or you could just have a full tank of petrol, a packed suitcase and a desire to just go somewhere romantic.”
“To put it another way, it’s somewhere you would blissfully turn off your BlackBerry, power down your iPad, and leave the office politics, well, in the office! We love places that go out of their way to do things to make your stay just that little bit extra special.”
“It could be something simple, like a handwritten welcome note or chef’s homemade biscuits in your room, to something a bit more out of the ordinary, such as a bag of sweets and a lip balm as part of the turndown service!”
“We feature hotels by the sea and hotels in the city, venues that have glorious spas, and locations which have Michelin-starred dining on tap – you’re bound to find something that makes your heart flutter!”
What’s your greatest achievement?
“Our greatest personal achievement has been getting married – it was simply the most amazing day and the very thought still brings a very happy tear to our eyes!”
“Professionally, and it has to be launching perfectminimoon.com. It has been four years in the making, with hours spent discussing themes, colours and designs – some of our best ideas, as they often do, came about during trips to the pub and had to be hastily scribbled down on the back of napkins! It has been fantastic seeing our initial sketches come to life before our very eyes.”
“Yes, it has been hard work but it has also been so very rewarding and the response from the public, hotels and venues has been fantastic.”
What’s the future for perfectminimoon.com?
“What a lovely question! We have grand plans for perfectminimoon.com over the next 12 months, with more hotels being added and a range of new features that we hope people will love and find helpful.”
“We aim to be the number one location for those romantic couples who, like us, are looking for somewhere special to stay. We’re focussing on the UK at the moment, and why not?!”
“The UK has some of the best hotels in the world! So, keep an eye on our website… it’s an exciting time!”
Thanks for Kate for sharing this brilliant resource for couples wanting that perfect little getaway. It is great to get an insider view and be able to find the very best for those special times.
