Today I am thrilled to spotlight on Ginny & The Tonic, a piano vocal duo from Glasgow, who specialise in performing the songs you love in a brand new way, and who make a splash like an ice cube for your Wedding or Event.
I hand over to Stefanie to tell you all about this incredible duo…
Who are you, and what do you do?
“Hello! Ginny & The Tonic are Stefanie Lawrence & Andrew Black.”
“We are a piano vocal duo from Glasgow, and we play cool versions of your favourite songs like you’ve never heard them before – think Radio 1 Live Lounge with a vintage twist!”
“We offer different packages that cover Wedding Ceremonies, Drinks Receptions, during dinner, and after dinner entertainment.”
“We supply all of our own equipment, and fit venues of any size.”
When and why did you start your Company?
“We’ve been together as a couple for just over 6 years and earlier this year we got engaged in Disney World.”
“We started working together not long after we became a couple in university, as it was a way for us to spend more time making music together.”
“While this might not work for some couples, for us, working and being together was always really easy and fun!”
“Ginny & The Tonic was born in 2011 when we started playing in cocktail bars and needed a name for the promoter of the venue.”
“We have spent the last 5 years playing in venues all over the country, including a four-year residency in Mar Hall hotel, and two festive seasons in Gleneagles.”
“Between the cocktail bars and hotels, we started to pick up a number of private bookings for weddings, parties and corporate events, so this year we decided to try and focus our efforts on really promoting ourselves within the wedding scene.”
What inspires you?
“We’re always striving to improve what we do as musicians, and in our field there’s no shortage of inspiration from our heroes!”
“We grew up loving the likes of David Bowie, The Beatles, Elton John and Prince, so those artists are definitely a source of inspiration.”
“We always loved live music and the intimacy of seeing bands we love perform live.”
“Studying the way they would change well known songs inspired us to be creative with cover versions, and that’s become what we’re known for.”
“When we’re not being Ginny & The Tonic, we write music together for our band APACHE DARLING.”
Do trends influence your work?
“Definitely! Trends in music change so often that musicians have adapt quicker than some other wedding suppliers.”
“For instance, a while back we would get a lot of requests for jazz standards and classic soul, then it was Adele songs, and now we’re finding Ed Sheeran and John Legend are the go-to choices for first dances.”
“Also, there’s a bit of a trend towards ’90s songs happening now, which suits us as we grew up in that time.”
“We also like to stay current. If a song starts to gain a lot of attention online or on radio, we try our to learn our version of it for our next event or show.”
What is your greatest achievement?
“With Ginny & The Tonic, we’d have to say being booked two years in a row for Christmas and New Year performances at Gleneagles.”
“It’s such a prestigious hotel and known globally for it’s incredible standard of service and attention to detail, so to be a feature of their biggest time of the year is really special to us and testament to the quality of our act.”
“More recently, seeing our first promotional video go viral on Facebook (right now it’s had something like 45K views in five days!) was such a shock, and people have been so lovely in their messages to us!”
“In music overall… last year, we played a number of major music festivals including T In The Park in Scotland and NXNE in Toronto, Canada with our own music, as APACHE DARLING.”
“We also finished in the top 16 of the International Songwriting Competition alongside some well known artists, so 2015 was a big year for us.”
What do you see as the future of Ginny & The Tonic?
“We’re really pushing to grow the wedding aspect of our service, to make weddings our focus and priority.”
“We want people to see what we do as a distinctive and unique form of musical entertainment for any part of their wedding day, something their guests won’t soon forget.”
“Because we’re small and independent, our clients will only ever deal directly with us, so we pride ourselves on exceptional personal service and put everything we have into each booking to make it special and memorable.”
Thank you so much to Stefanie and Andrew for talking to us today about their fabulous piano vocal duo.
I have been bowled over by their exceptional talent and want to share this recently released promotional video.
