Today I am thrilled to shine the spotlight on Rosadior and her beautiful, handmade floral hair accessories such as stunning floral crowns and garlands, flower hair clips, combs and other floral fashion accessories.
Each unique piece is created using a mix of new and original vintage artificial flowers, plastic fruit, feathers, bird’s butterflies and vintage jewellery.
All pieces are mounted on plain or satin headbands, combs, clips and wrist corsages.
I hand you over to the lovely Sam to tell you all about her blossoming Business…
Who are you, and what do you do?
“I am Sam Freeman, I own Rosadior. I design and make one – off floral headbands, clips and combs.”
When and why did you start your Company?
“I began making quirky flower crowns to use as props for my pop up vintage photo booth company.”
“People began to ask me to make bespoke crowns and then garlands for festivals, and eventually brides to be started asking for them too.”
“As a busy businesswomen and mum of two, I found designing and creating these one off hair accessories hugely satisfying and relaxing.”
“I realised it gave me the opportunity to let my creativity run wild and for my mind to wander free for while. So in January this year I took a leap of faith and set up Rosadior.”
What inspires you?
“I grew up in a home filled with old books, art and furniture from the arts and crafts and Art Nouveaux period.”
“I was given children’s books filled with illustrations by the likes of Arthur Rackham, Mabel Lucie Attwell, Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane and spent hours in dusty old book shops, antique fairs and junk shops with my parents.”
“I was taken to art galleries and introduced to the immensely beautiful works by the Pre Raphaelites and as I grew up, I began to discover and fall in love with the art and images of the 1920’s right through to the 60’s.”
“I have a fascination with the glorious floral images on old Victorian greetings cards and by the language and sentiment behind each flower and base a lot of my creations on these.”
“I am inspired by different aspects of so many eras. I couldn’t pigeon hole my style at all, but I kinda like that.”
“Offering a bespoke design service means I am lead by the clients vision rather than a trend. So I find myself constantly inspired! It’s actually quite exhausting for the ol’ brain to keep up with all the ideas!”
“Nothing better than having those “clap your hands and squeal with delight” moments, when you see something that inspires you!”
“I was in Budapest last week and came across these quirky, childlike little papier mache ornaments of flying pigs, toadstools, frogs and freaky faced pixies. I loved it!”
“Made me want to rush back to my studio!”
Do trends influence your work?
“Yes and no. I will always keep my eye on seasonal colour trends and will make mental notes of what is on trend, but essentially, I try and create timelessly beautiful accessories.”
“The ancient Greeks wore flowers in their hair, so it’s not something new and it will never go out of fashion.”
“I personally think it’s lovely to have a little bit of pretty in my hair. I wear flowers every day, even with my jeans and T.”
“Like a good red lipstick, it instantly cheers me up!”
What is your greatest achievement?
“Apart from my two beautiful boys….I’d say that knowing that there is now a fully fledged and thriving Vintage China Hire industry sector in the UK now, thanks to little old me.”
“Back in 2005 I set up Idyllic Days, the very first vintage china hire company.”
“Being the first of it’s kind, all the top London caterers where being asked by their celebrity clients to use my china.”
“I was lucky enough to work with some amazing clients, caterers, stylists, celebs and magazines. Featuring in all the top wedding industry publications every month.”
What do you see as the future of your Company?
I would like to see Rosadior grow and be regarded as the place to visit to get that “little something special”
“For people to want to own an original “Rosadior piece” and for it to be kept and worn time and time again and for it not to be sent to the charity shop along with last seasons “throw away” purchases.”
“I would also love a little Rosadior floral accessory boutique one day. That would be tres fantastique!”
Whether you are a boho bride, a gyspy fairy queen, festival revellers, burlesque belles or a rockabilly starlet there is floral hair accessories to suit your individual style.
I love the boldness of the design and that each design whether colourful or in more muted tones still makes a stunning style impact.
