Rose and Aster

Rose and Aster was created by Sarah Spence in 2010 and is run from her Log Cabin Showroom in the heart of the Chilterns.

It had been Sarah’s lifelong dream to set up her own business selling items that she loved.  She works with a select group of fabulous suppliers stocking only items that she would wear herself or buy for her best friends.

I had a wee chat with Sarah all about her fabulous Business,

Who are you, and what do you do?

“My name is Sarah Spence, I am a wife and mother to a fabulous little girl,
And I run an online Jewellery Boutique called Rose & Aster. (named after both mine and my daughter’s birth flowers).”

When, and why did you start your business?

“My business is just about to turn 2 years old. I find this very difficult to believe – it seems like yesterday!”

“Like many women, I reached the age of 40 and panicked that ‘this was it’ for the rest of my life. I wasn’t happy with this so I decided to do something about it!”

“I have been a magpie my whole life, and a great accessorizer so it was a natural choice of business for me.  The time was right.”

What inspires you?

“I take huge inspiration from the fact that by simply wearing a fabulous piece of jewellery, you can feel wonderful, confident and visible! (something that many women over the age of 40 struggle with).  I am constantly inspired by real, everyday women.”

“I am a serial people watcher and love nothing more than to sit back in street side café and
have a good nosey at all the women around.”

“I am inspired by how real women interpret current trends to work for them,
perhaps a delicate pair of agate earrings matched with a scarf to embrace the current berry
red trend or maybe a fabulous pair of long fringed earrings with a nod to the ever present 20’s trend.”

“Everybody’s jewellery styles are different and this in itself inspires me to ensure I can offer the best collection possible to suit all tastes.”

Do trends have a major impact on your work?

“There are two distinctive sides to my business, the fashion side and the bridal side.
As you can imagine the fashion jewellery side of my boutique is more trend orientated, although I do prefer to buy into jewellery with staying power – a piece that you will be able to wear for years – classic items that don’t date.”

“I do, however, offer some slightly more commercial pieces but I do keep this as slightly more of a ‘limited collection’ that moves with the seasons.”

“The bridal side of the boutique is predominantly timeless.
Elegant and classic pieces to ensure you feel confident and beautiful on your big day.”

What is your greatest accomplishment?

“My greatest accomplishment is yet to come. (apart from my beautiful daughter of course!!)
I am currently co-designing a new wholesale range of bridal, bridesmaid & honeymoon jewellery which we hope to launch next Spring.”

“We played around with a few pieces this year, which the wonderful Johanna Hehir used for the launch photo’s of her Mae Collection.”

“This particular collection of jewellery has been reworked using only the finest materials and is ready to go into production…watch this space!”

What is the future for your Business?

“I am hoping that the business will continue to grow from strength to strength and hope that women will view Rose & Aster as their first port of call for fabulous, affordable jewellery and accessories that they generally will not find on the High Street.”

“I will continue to hand pick the best collections possible and with the prospect of our own ranges in the near future…anything is possible!”
