Supplier Spotlight – Baba C Designs – Bridal Accessories

I am thrilled to share the gorgeous designs of  Trina Porter of Baba C Designs.

I have known Trina online for quite a wee while but it was fabulous to finally meet her and see some of her work properly and it was worth waiting for.

Today Trina tells us a wee bit about her self,

What is it you do, and what services do you offer ?

“We offer the design and manufacture of bridal and fashion accessories, which covers and includes a vast range of designs.
Each piece is designed from scratch and made here in Scotland, they are all exclusive and many are unique in style and composition to Baba-C Designs.

“Our aim is to make all our brides feel special and look amazing whatever look they choose.
The collections cover tiaras, headpieces, all types of jewellery, hats, capes, wraps, shoe clips, cuff links, belts, corsages and all styles of veils made to suit all gown styles.”

“We also offer an alteration and customisation service to our clients.
A complete and comprehensive service which offers everything except the dress and the groom!”

When, and why did you start your business ?

“The business was started in 1997 and grew out of a real need for an exclusive service, where clients could get expert help and unrivalled choice to perfectly complement their gown.
At that time there were only a few places that offered any choice, but only in tiaras.”

“I had been working in a bridal store, fitting and altering the gowns. I would tell the girls to bring in all their accessories for the final fitting so they could see how it all looked together.”

“One of the girls came for her fitting with only two weeks until her wedding and no tiara and no veil! She was in a bit of a state, knowing what she wanted but unable to find anything suitable, so I offered to make her veil and as I had made lots of jewellery, her tiara. I also made some tiaras for her bridesmaids.”

“As a dressmaker to trade and many years working on the gowns, I had a good understanding and appreciation of what would be the best cut of veil and style of headpiece to complete the look. She was thrilled and recommended me to lots of friends, colleagues and relatives.”

“The demand grew and when the shop was changing hands I was encouraged to start my own business, and Baba-C Designs was born.”

What inspires you ?

“Lots of things. I have always loved old movies and vintage, even before it became popular again, so get lots of ideas from that. I take a lot of inspiration from the gowns themselves.”

“Having made and worked on so many I know the importance of accessories that “fit” the overall look. The brides to be also have some great ideas and I always take into account what their preferences may be.
I once got a great idea from table legs in a cafe! If you keep looking and apply a little imagination the inspiration is endless.”

Whats your greatest achievement ?

“On a personal level it has to my children, who’s initials along with my husbands make up the company name. Ben, who is now working with my husband Al in his electrical business.”

“Abi, although she is a university student helps out at shows and exhibitions. She has also shown real talent in design and I am hoping she will do more.”

“Bethany, although still in school, models all the designs and works on the many photo shoots where I am the stylist. She is also showing real promise as a photographer. Aside from their talents and achievements they are simply wonderful, we are very proud of them.”

“On a business level it is always a thrill to have a hand in helping to make a Brides day special, contributing to memories that last a lifetime.”

“Last year I had one of the headpieces worn by “Millie” on the T.V. programme “Made in Chelsea” although I am not a fan it generated a huge amount of interest and orders worldwide.”

I also have another design featuring in a film due for cinema release here and in the U.S.A later this year. To have my designs on T.V. and film was just great!

“Designing a headpiece made exclusively from BIC pens, to celebrate their 60th anniversary was also a highlight. It was shown with the dress it was styled especially for, and with other pieces on a tour which included London, Paris and Milan!”

Whats the future for your Business ?

“To continue growing and expanding. Setting trends rather than following them.
The collections are always being added to and the range on offer continues to increase.”

The demand for the bespoke veils is growing steadily as the choice of colours covers all shades of gowns and more, each one being made and finished to complement the dress in every way possible.
We are working on the fashion side of things with a new website planned, this opens up our client base considerably and allows me even more scope for creativity.”

“The future is bright for Baba-C Designs and I am looking forward to the challenge it will bring.”

Thanks to Trina for sharing her marvellous work. I was enthralled when seeing the designs on the catwalk, such beautiful design, absolutely dazzling.
