Today I am thrilled to spotlight on the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, a completely unique wedding venue with a very special setting in the heart of Scotlands capital.
With its 70 acres of manicured lawns, landscaped grounds and gardens, The Gardens are a magical and idyllic setting for a wedding of any kind, from the simplest of ceremonies to a lavish celebration.
Dating back to 1820, the historic Garden is now a much-loved visitor attraction and its location, just a stone’s throw away from the city centre, makes it easily accessible from all major transport links.
The historic venue offers outdoor ceremonies from April to September in its stunning wedding grove, with couples saying ‘I do’ under the towering Californian Redwood trees.
For indoor celebrations several event spaces are available, from the charming, Victorian-built Caledonian Hall with its views over the rock garden and waterfall, to the contemporary John Hope Gateway and David Douglas Room, which offers a range of innovative and unusual options for wedding parties.
With a dedicated team of experienced wedding planners and event organisers on hand, courtesy of the venue’s catering & events partner, Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, every couple is offered a personalised service, from the initial enquiry to the big day itself.
For your ceremony there is a range of venue options…
John Muir Grove
Perfect for outdoor ceremonies, the John Muir Grove is one of the most romantic locations to exchange your vows.
Set amidst the redwood trees and rhododendrons, it offers a stunning and tranquil setting.
With seating for up to 42 guests, additional guests standing can be accommodated.
Ceremonies in the John Muir Grove are available from April to September and require an agreed wet weather alternative, which the venue’s Executive Wedding Planner will discuss with couples in greater detail in advance.
The understated and charming Caledonian Hall was built in 1820 and has beautiful views overlooking the Garden’s famous rock garden and waterfall.
With its classic period features and high ceilings, it offers an ideal venue for the whole day, from the ceremony and post wedding drinks, to the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.
David Douglas Room
The David Douglas Room appears to float over the Garden, providing guests with stunning views overlooking the beautiful grounds and Bio Garden.
The perfect venue for intimate wedding ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, it has direct access on to the outside decking.
For wedding parties of up to 20, the venue’s chefs can create a bespoke culinary masterpiece, allowing guests to enjoy an exquisite fine dining experience.
John Hope Gateway
Couples can enjoy exclusive use of this unique space, which offers an unrivalled view of the Garden and the Edinburgh skyline.
Boasting floor to ceiling windows, which open out onto a large outdoor deck, this is an ideal space for wedding breakfasts and receptions, with the option of adding al fresco dining including barbeques.
Is it exclusive use?
The venue can be hired out on an exclusive use basis, but due to the expansive grounds, and the fact that many of the spaces sit separately from each other, many couples find this isn’t necessary.
The Garden is largely accessible to wheelchair users and all of its buildings have level or ramped, ground floor access.
Wheelchairs or mobility scooters can also be provided to help make getting around that little bit easier.
Children are more than welcome and with its expansive grounds, the venue offers plenty of outdoor space to help little ones burn off some energy.
Can we use our own suppliers ?
Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events pride themselves on their flexible and helpful service, but couples are welcome to use their own suppliers.
Sometimes it can be daunting to know where to start, so the team is happy to offer guidance and has a list of recommended suppliers available should you wish the information.
The Gardens hold very special memories for me as we used to take our late aunt there for a visit ll the time. Its a wonderful welcoming place where you can admire the stunning trees and flowers and really chill out.
Though never a guest of a Wedding at the Botanics I have been lucky to witness a beautiful outdoor ceremony and what an amazing place to celebrate whilst being be at one with nature.
Wedding Fayres can be a good opportunity to meet suppliers and collect ideas and The Botanics Annual Wedding Fayre takes place this Sunday the 25th September from 12 – 4pm.
The Gardens offer a selection of Wedding Packages but for those looking for an enchanting winter wedding, the venue’s winter package is available at £6995 from October 2016 to March 2017, with limited availability remaining > Winter Wedding Package.
