Today I am delighted to spotlight on The Dumfries Arms Hotel, a contemporary, stylish boutique hotel and Ayrshire Wedding Venue.
Situated in the ancient burgh of Cumnock the hotel has played host to many colourful characters over the years, and has a rich 300 year history behind it.
Previous visitors include Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns who spent many a night at the old hotel bar, entertaining the locals and Sir Walter Scott, the poet and novelist who frequented the hotel in times gone by.
Skip to the modern day and the old hotel has undergone a complete transformation and is now one of Ayrshire’s largest and most stylish wedding venues along with 26 elegant bedrooms, a popular restaurant and a relaxed lounge bar with private dining room for those special occasions.
Housed in an 18th-century stone building, this upscale hotel is 1.8 miles from Auchinleck train station (with links to Glasgow)
The hotel is also well positioned for visiting sights nearby Ayr and the coast, local golf courses, the Burns National Heritage trail, Culzean Castle and Dumfries House.
The elegant surroundings of the hotel are apparent from the moment you walk through the door.
A gorgeous ornamental mirror hangs above a designer fireplace that warms the cockles after entering from the chilly weather outside.
Even more eyecatching though is the incredible staircase that greets you, it really makes an impact.
The sophisticated bedrooms feature large flat-screen TVs and DVD players, plus tea and coffee making facilities.
We stayed in a superior family room which I have to say was absolutely huge with two king size and comfortable beds and a substantial bathroom with walk in shower and bath.
I particularly loved the little amenity packs with toiletries and a large stack of fluffy towels.
WIFI is good in main areas of the hotel but wasn’t the best in our room but that was possibly a positioning issue and the room and its facilities more than made up for it.
The restaurant is warm and inviting with neutral tones and relaxing candlelight and the adjoining bar and lounge has a relaxed ambience.
Staff at each were attentive, welcoming and friendly.
The hotels prides itself on the recipes and ingredients it uses, naturally drawing on the best local produce from the area, and it shows.
For my dinner, I kickstarted my tastebuds with some hearty soup, followed by steak pie which was both beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
This was finished off with some scrumptious apple pie and custard…
My husbands choices were similarily well received and my son piped up that the chicken gougons were the best he had ever tasted, which for a fussy eater is high praise.
Breakfast too was good with cooked breakfast to your requirements (my kids just wanted bacon and toast) and pastries, fruit, yoghurt and cereals.
For your event the hotel caters to small intimate weddings as well as grand elaborate celebrations for up to 250 guests.
The hotel prides itself on adaptability and the function suite can be prepared as the setting for your wedding ceremony , and then transformed for your wedding breakfast.
The suites partition is removable tailoring itself to different sizes of celebration and it has its own extensive marble bar and designated washrooms.
At night the room can be transformed once more into a stylish ballroom complete with dancefloor and mood lighting.
To find out more take look at their Wedding Packages.
For a much smaller celebration the Private dining room is a beautiful space for that intimate ceremony or celebration dinner.
It is also becoming more popular for rehearsal dinners.
Now lets talk about the Honeymoon Suite, its a sight to behold!
It absolutely massive, with a centrally positioned contemporary 4-poster bed.
There is also a lovely separate lounge and sitting area with great natural light. Perfect for some time out but also for sitting getting your make up done pre ceremony.
There is also an enormous bathroom which sports a fabulous Jacuzzi bath.
It’s a luxurious and opulent way to start your first night of married life.
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel, and lots of fun exploring the local area.
Its a lovely setting for Ayrshire couples to say I do and definitely one to watch.
