Couples wanting a pre-Wedding break for some stress relief or wanting a central spot for a city Minimoon will find it a wonderful option, you can even host your Small wedding there.
Consider it too as a relaxed base for your hen festivities, enjoying a glass of wine before you go out dancing in the cities clubs and bars.
Its also really for fabulous for families like us.
Enriched by an illustrious heritage, courtesy of being transformed from a famous banking landmark, and across the street from St Andrew Square, the Edinburgh Grand is a luxury hotel and leisure complex by the Lateral City group.
Located in Edinburghs vibrant city centre, this upscale hotel is just a few minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station, on the tramline from Edinburgh airport and within sight of the beautiful Edinburgh Castle.
The setting is also in a very strollable neighbourhood, with the bustling Square being a welcome bit of green in an urban jungle.
There is plentiful array of restaurants on your doorstep such as the hotels own Hawksmoor restaurant as well as Wahaca and The Ivy, and many more.
From there it’s just a hop, skip and a jump to the shops of Princes Street, and the marvellous Harvey Nichols and other brands such as Louis Vuitton too.
Even approaching the building it lives up to its name, and the stunning lobby which opens up to the soaring atrium leads up to the buildings 50 luxury serviced apartments.
The elegant apartments sleep from 1 to 6 guests and range from studios to 3-bedrooms.
All have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and kitchens, as well as Nespresso machines and designer toiletries from New York brand Malin + Goetz.
There’s also a posh penthouse apartment with a private rooftop terrace that comes with 3 spacious bedrooms for the ultimate in luxury experience.
We stayed in a One bedroom Grand apartment.
For ease of entry they send you a door code 48 hours prior to your stay which made check in streamline and quick.
We were shown to our apartment and its key features pointed out so we could have the maximum benefit from all it offered.
Our apartment comprised of one stylish bedroom with gorgeous linens and another curtained off room space with a double bed on a raised platform, giving the impression of a cosy nook.
There was Jack and Jill access from the apartment corridor and main bedroom to the expansive bathroom with roll top bath, toilet, drench shower and pretty sink space.
There was also a contemporary, open-plan living, dining and kitchen, area kitted out with modern technology and handy utensils, alongside creature comforts, such as Nespresso coffee machine and Bose speakers.
The dining space is great if you just feel like eating in, and also doubled for me as a handy work space so this would be perfect for any person staying on Business.
A particularly impressive aspect of our apartment was the view from the wrap around balcony which had a lovely view of the square and was the perfect spot for catching an epic sunset.
There is daily servicing where they will replace your towels and tea, coffee etc and the staff at reception are exceptionally personable and knowledgable should you have queries.
A great advantage of family stays is the Penguin Club, a programme in celebration of their partnership with Edinburgh Zoo, exclusively for Lateral City kids!
When you book direct kids receive a fabulous welcome pack including a penguin soft toy, child-friendly amenities, and bespoke activity pack in collaboration with The paper party bag shop in addition to some fluffy bathrobes, slippers.
My kids particularly loved the sweeties as well as their cuddly plush to take home.
For your private parties, corporate events, small Weddings and special gatherings it’s a great option too presenting three beautiful spaces, all of which have their own individual character.
The Penthouse which features unrivalled views of the city is the ideal location for a party that is set to impress.
Entering through a spacious corridor where long horizontal windows have been cleverly designed to glimpse Edinburgh from a different vantage point, the apartment opens into an expansive contemporary kitchen, dining and comfortable seating area makes it the perfect place to gather.
For your fabulous drinks and canapes reception the space holds up to 80.
For seated dining there is capacity for up to 24.
Add in the giant wrap-around outdoor terrace space and the space takes mingling and celebrating to lofty heights.
The Director’s Suite is all about period features, original fireplaces, the gold accent wood panelling and the contemporary detailing add to the gentrified and romantic atmosphere.
At one end sits the spacious kitchen with all mod cons, leading to a lounge area, offering super cosy sofas and armchairs with footstools while at one end there is a set of double doors that lead into the large cognac wood-panelled Master Bedroom with King-size bed and tucked behind that is an artfully designed space, where a deep bathtub lurks.
And a super-size table sits grandly in the middle of the suite as the perfect platform to showcase fine dining hosting up to 12.
For a drinks party the suite takes up to 40 and you can get married in the Suite too.
Alternatively, the dual personality Games Room is the perfect choice for a more up-beat gathering.
Elegantly furnished in a contemporary style its probably the most flexible space seating up to 36 in dinner or boardroom style, up to 40 for Wedding or theatre style or up to 60 for n informal drinks reception.
For dining should you not wish to go out there is Hawkesmoor, located in the beautiful former National Bank of Scotland Banking Hall, a Grade A listed ‘building of national importance’.
The 185 cover restaurant has been sensitively refurbished to celebrate the building’s original features, and it has a great reputation for seafood and steaks.
The Register Club is found on the fourth floor and offers a relaxed spot to eat, drink, meet and hang out, occupying the west wing of the building and is open from 10am – 11pm daily.
It combines beautiful historic detailing with smart, innovative design and contemporary comfort.
It also doubles as where you tuck into your simple but scrumptious breakfast.
Lady Libertine is the venues own Wine Cafe where you can sample a selection of dishes throughout the day; from homemade pastries to lunch and late night bites.
The accompanying drinks list features a small but perfectly formed selection of cocktails, beers and spirits alongside a constantly evolving wine list.
For the fit and energetic among you ( Not Me!) there is also CaveFit, a bad-ass meets boutique, city centre facility which offers gym equipment, personal training and a large variety of strength & metabolic conditioning workouts and classes.
In addition the apartments now offer complimentary bicycle hire to in-house guests to allow them to get to know our city better.
Lateral City’s eclectic portfolio of serviced apartments includes three other distinct and rather magnificent properties.
