Today I am thrilled to spotlight on The Grassmarket Centre, a unique Edinburgh wedding venue combining the new with the old with an ethical twist.
Weddings at the Grassmarket Centre, part of the multi-award winning Social enterprise and charity Grassmarket Community Project, bring benefit to countless people and not just you as a couple or your guests!
I visited this forward thinking and very central Scottish capital venue on a sunny Edinburgh day a few weeks ago and was really impressed by what it offers…
The Grassmarket Centre is a beautiful multi-award winning venue in the heart of Edinburgh, marrying the historic City’s Old Town architecture with a modern adaptable space for conference, events, musical performance and wedding receptions.
Nestled beneath, with stunning views of Edinburgh Castle from their back-door which flows seamlessly into the lush green Greyfriars Kirkyard is the Grassmarket Centre.
The Centre lives among the picturesque streets of Victoria Street, Candlemaker Row and the Grassmarket Old Town area – a unique retail, restaurant and pub district in one of the most beautiful cities in the world
Their highly experienced team can bring your vision of a perfect day to life with a choice of flexible affordable packages from a sit down wedding breakfast for up to 90 people, a buffet for and evening reception for up to 200 guests.
All events are personalised around the individual needs of the client to maximise the impact of their event.
Where catering is sought, bespoke menus can be devised by our versatile kitchen team, ranging from buffets to canapé receptions and a full dining experience.
Boasting a full theatre license the Grassmarket Centre is able to adapt itself to a variety of uses from ceilidhs to theatre spaces, wedding receptions to corporate away days and conferences.
The hall is fully equipped with state of the art sound and lighting equipment and technical assistance can be provided.
Events are serviced with a well-integrated team of professionals and members from the Grassmarket Community Project and we have received outstanding feedback regarding how we facilitate this balance without compromising on the quality of service you should expect.

Grassmarket Tartans is part of the Grassmarket Community Project, a place where vulnerable people come to be part of a community, develop new skills, grow in confidence and enjoy genuine friendships.
Members who are part of Grassmarket Tartans learn a range of different textiles skills.
While making the products, members are undergoing a comprehensive textiles training programme and working towards becoming more employable, as well as gaining valuable life skills such as improved communication and team work.
At the moment, members are designing and creating products to order and these include beautiful products suitable for Wedding party gifts or for Wedding favours.
To add to this there is Grassmarket Furniture (formerly GRoW) which started in 2006 and is one of the social enterprises in the Grassmarket Community Project.
The workshop is open across four days per week and has about six regular volunteers on each day.
They transform unwanted church pews and other wood into beautiful, bespoke pieces of furniture and home furnishings.
They can also create Wedding gifts such as photo frames and wooden place settings for reception tables.
The versatility of the venue allows for options to take on more and more of the building for children’s activities, spaces for quiet and spaces for changing making it a brilliant choice for adaptability of your Big Day.
The Grassmarket Centre is also fully wheelchair accessible with both disabled facilities and lifts and creates a family-friendly atmosphere, coming fully equipped with highchairs and baby changing facilities.
Just behind the Centre is Greyfriars graveyard which is where Greyfriars Bobby is buried and also where J.K Rowling found inspiration for the names of some of her Harry Potter characters.
Its a lovely leafy quiet space of solitude with lovely views of the Castle and great for photographic opportunities.
The Venue does not have parking facilities on site but is well service by public transport (buses and taxis) with a number of nearby hotels for guest accommodation.
The train station is approximately a 10-15 minute walk away.
For Wedding Cars the venue has an arrangement for Bride and Groom arrival at the Venue.
The Venue are also launching a Competition on October 2nd to Win your Wedding > Details
Well worth entering to both have a Wedding that you can really put your own stamp on but which also really helps to improve the lives of others too.
The Venue is a wonderful resource and an amazing lifeline to the community and its amazing to be able to give back and help those a little less fortunate whilst celebrating the best moments of our lives.
