Groom Style – How Accessories make the Man

Today on the Blog I want to talk Groom Style and I have enlisted the lovelies over at DQT to share their advice on accessories for the Groom to ensure he looks sharp on his Big Day.

One of the most difficult decisions you’ll have to make when planning for your wedding day is choosing what to wear.

Choose wisely, and you’ll feel ten feet tall on the day. Get it wrong, and you’ll feel out of sorts, or at least until the bubbly starts flowing!

The first rule of thumb when choosing the groom’s accessories is to co-ordinate with the Bride‘s colour scheme.

Negotiate with your bride to make sure you have a say in the colour scheme; you’ll have to wear it on the big day, too, so it’s important that you like it, and that it suits you!

Accessories can make all the difference to an outfit, with the tie / bowtie being the key accessory that has the power to transform your entire look.

There shouldn’t be any limit to how far you can take your personal style at a wedding.

For example to inject a vintage feel to your wedding day you may consider opting for a gingham patterned tow-tie, as illustrated above.

Or for a more funky look a bright pattern expresses an alternative approach to life.

Embrace your tie as an opportunity to express your personality on your wedding day!

If elegance is your preference, rather than any particular display of personality, then simplicity is more the key.

Popular colour schemes include pastel pinks & blues, as well as deeper shades of purple & green.

Matt finish ties work well in photographs, preventing too much reflection. This also adds a masculine element to typically feminine colours, such as pink and purple.

Silk ties, and their polyester look-alikes, take on an attractive sheen in deeper colours, and stand up well to a full day of wear without showing too many creases.

Other wedding accessories to consider include waistcoats, which can create a big effect.

If your suit is a lighter shade, waistcoats in hot pink satin or burgundy will make a striking contrast.

Lighter coloured men’s wedding waistcoats on the other hand – such as in baby blue, champagne or gold satin – look striking when teamed up with a darker outfit.

Whether you’re wearing tails, morning suit, plain suit, or a kilt, a wedding waistcoat will add a classy finishing touch.

One of the advantages of wearing a waistcoat is that it really flatters the male physique, so if you’re carrying a few extra pounds, a waistcoat will help to keep everything looking nice and trim.

For those of you who are already buff, a waistcoat will only set off your shape to better effect.

If you’ve never bought a waistcoat before, it’s best to opt for a snug fit – although not too tight – and to look your most elegant, always wear a waistcoat with the buttons done.

Ultimately, the most important aspect when choosing your wedding attire is to feel comfortable enough to enjoy your special day.

So, with some common sense, you can confidently make your wedding accessories choices positively to help other people feel the joy of the occasion.
