Where to Honeymoon in February

Continuing our series taking a look at the best places to go on honeymoon month-by-month, Buy Our Honeymoon take us through their suggestions for February, including some of the best ideas for gifts to add to your honeymoon fund.

Valentine’s Day, our very symbolic day of love is a very popular day to get married — in fact, the most popular day outside of the summer.

If you romantics have chosen St. Valentine to host your wedding day, or you want to be on honeymoon for Valentine’s, then there are some amazing places to visit this time of year.

Sri Lanka

February is a great time to visit Sri Lanka. There’s great sunshine, high temperatures and minimal rainfall.

Sri Lanka is a fascinating country in the Indian Ocean bursting with culture and adventure. You can visit beautiful temples, visit the elephant orphanage, enjoy a safari at Yala National Park and explore the UNESCO world heritage site, Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Of course if you want to laze away your days on the sun kissed beaches then you’ll be very well taken care of too. The South and West Coasts are best this time of year.

A fabulous gift idea is a trip to a tea plantation. One of the best is Nuwara Eliya, also known as the Little England of Sri Lanka because of its stunning colonial architecture.

Brazil

Brazil is one of the biggest countries in the world and offers everything. Combine a trip to Rio with one of Brazil’s natural wonders: the Amazon rainforest, Iguazu Falls or its 7000km coastline.

The best time to visit Rio de Janeiro is February when the weather is warm and sunny enough to hit the beaches and the world famous carnival is on! For many people this is a bucket list experience.

Enjoy the stunning beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana — and for an unspoilt tropical paradise, try the stunning island of Ilha Grande.

Once a former leper colony it’s now an opportunity to experience a traffic-free oasis; cars are banned so you’ll need to take the ferry – all part of the excitement!

A trip to Brazil wouldn’t be complete without seeing the spectacular Iguazu Falls. The majestic waterfalls are completely awe-inspiring! An amazing experience would be to take a helicopter ride over the falls – something you would remember for the rest of your lives.

A wonderful honeymoon gift would be a trip to the Christ the Redeemer statue, taking the Cog Railway, which climbs up through the lush tropical Tijuca rainforest, and is the best way to reach the peak of Corcovado mountain.

Dubai

Dubai is a great place to visit most of the year, but it can be unbearably hot in the summer, so it’s best avoided June to August.

In February, the temperature averages 22 degrees and there can even be swimming weather if you’re lucky — though you might want to go in March or April if that’s a must for you.

Dubai is the perfect honeymoon destination for couples that love vibrant cosmopolitan cities with loads of glitz and glamour.

It’s a fascinating combination of its native Arabian traditions with all of the luxurious trappings of the West.

This is a shopping paradise and perfect for those couples who want the best and most opulent hotels in the world.

But fun lovers are well served too – with excellent water parks and jet skiing on offer. Take a trip out of the city for camel riding or dune buggy racing!

An amazing honeymoon gift would be tickets to the top of the Burj Khalifa.

It’s a must-do to see the fantastic views of Dubai from the top of the world’s tallest building.

Destinations to avoid in February

Though New York is lovely, we recommend avoiding it at this time of year.

We went one time in February and nearly froze solid – the wind chill through the buildings was brutal and the coldest we’ve ever been.

If you do go, remember to wrap up warm!
