A beautiful vintage inspired Engagement Shoot at Snape Maltings with an old wartime vibe

Today I am thrilled to share this beautiful Vintage inspired Engagement Shoot at Snape Maltings with an old wartime vibe.

The couple are Bethany and James, and the shoot combined their passion for the retro, and the mlitary.

Gorgeous Bride Bethany shares the couples story and tells us about their pretty vintage inspired Engagement shoot…

How did you meet?

James and I met on a night out back in April 2017. He said he noticed how pretty my smile was and later on asked for a contact number which I said no to at first!

After finding me on social media, we started talking and decided to meet up a week later and had our ‘first date’.

Five months down the line – September 16th, I finally said yes to being his girlfriend and it all went from there!

Tell us about the Proposal…

James proposed in August 2019 whilst we were on a lovely cottage holiday in Norfolk. We took his son, Oliver (7 years old) and got away for a long weekend which was perfect!

I remember James telling me that he kept the engagement ring in Oliver’s rucksack to hide it from me! It was a Wednesday evening and we had just put Oliver to bed and cracked open a bottle of red wine and sat talking about our relationship.

I had just gone to the bathroom to freshen up (having no idea what was about to happen!) and when I went to the table to sip my wine, I turned around and James was then down on one knee, holding the most beautiful sparkly diamond ring, asking me to marry him!

Obviously I was emotional but I remember using a few naughty words at the time (much to James’ disgust) because I was so surprised at what was happening!

It really was the best day EVER because we took a day trip to a wildlife park where I saw some of the cutest animals (otters, red pandas, racoons), there was a lovely ginger tom called Jeffrey at the cottage and also a hedgehog made an appearance (for me, the whole day was a complete cuteness OVERLOAD).

Why did you choose this style of engagement shoot?

We chose this style as this is us.

I am a lover of ALL things vintage & retro, everything about that era is just beautiful.

I have many dresses, petticoats which I, myself and James have bought as presents at special occasions (the one I used for the photoshoot was a Christmas present from James – and my favourite).

The shoot was actually James’ idea as he is in the Armed Forces and thought about wearing his uniform for the shoot.

James learnt to play the bagpipes in the Reading Scottish pipe band when he was younger which he then carried on later on in his life, joining the Irish Guards which he has now been a part of for several years.

He has played in front of the Queen and many other big events which have been televised.

When he was on tour in South Sudan last year – everyone was always asking him in the evenings and cheering him on to play the bagpipes which they all loved and enjoyed singing and dancing to!

Bringing my love of retro, and his military service together in the shoot was the perfect opportunity to get dressed up, bringing an old wartime vibe to the present and showing who we both are.
