Today I am thrilled to share this gorgeous atmospheric Yorkshire engagement shoot on Ilkley Moor.
We are sauntering slowly into Spring but the weather can’t quite make up its mind what it wants to do yet with glorious sunshine one minute and hail stones the next.
I think that the hail that came down on the day though probably not so fun for our couple and our intrepid photographer brought character and atmosphere to the moor.
The couple are Emma & Alex along with Ruby, their King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
Images were captured by Photography by Kathryn.

I hand over to our gorgeous Bride to be Emma to tell the couples story …
How did you meet?
“We met on a dating app (Tinder) in January 2014.”
“Our first date was a couple of drinks at the Botanist which went really well.”
“The second date started with a disaster as I was knocked over by a bicycle on my way to it, I didn’t tell Alex this detail for 6months!”
“Despite this minor setback the date went well and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Tell us about the Engagement
“We went on holiday to Elounda village in Crete in October last year, such a fantastic holiday all round.”
“On the second day we went on a hike around an island in the bay where we were staying.”
“We reached the top of a hill with fantastic views and captured some photos.”
“Wrapped up in the views Alex had to virtually man-handle me to keep still at which point he briefly dropped to one knee, popped the question and produced the most beautiful ring!”
“After a giddy ten minutes we started our descent, lost the path in our excitement and ended up in the middle of the spikey-est plants on earth!”
“After a long de-tour we finished a great walk and started the celebrations.”
“Nothing can beat those first few phone calls to friends and family, so exciting!”
“Plans started for the wedding pretty much as soon as we got home.”
“With a date set for April, time was time and decisions needed to be made fast.”
“We dabbled in a couple of wedding fayres, not exactly our thing, but luckily this is where we found our lovely photographer- Kathryn Widdowson.”
“It was probably one of the first things we booked so it made things very real.”
“As part of our package we embarked on an engagement shoot on Ilkley Moor, one of our favourite places to walk with our dog, Ruby.”
“After a cosy coffee in town we headed up onto the moor to be greeted by a hail storm!”
“At this point Kathryn did ask if we wanted to carry on but we are pretty hardy!”
“The first few pictures are definitely grimaces rather than smiles as the hail whipped onto our faces and Ruby did not look impressed, however they made some fantastic pictures and luckily we also got a bit of sunshine too, can’t get much worse for the day itself we feel!”
Tell us about your Wedding Plans…
“Our wedding will take place at the end of April at my parents house in North Lincolnshire.”
“The theme is a typical English country garden wedding in spring time.”
“We are keeping it fairly traditional with a vintage twist.”
“A lot of the decorations and preparations we have done ourselves including reclaiming a lot of original pieces from the old farm shed, including 3 old bicycles.”
“The bicycles have formed a bit of a theme of their own including the inspiration for our stationery, which again are traditional but with with a hint of fun.”
“My Mum is making the cake and we are hoping to have my Grandma’s recipe of homemade lemonade made on the day but we are having a traditional wedding breakfast in the afternoon too.”
“Alex and the boys are wearing navy blue suits for the day. My dress is fairly simple although I can’t reveal too much just yet whilst sitting next to Alex!”
“However my something old is my Mum’s own veil she wore for her wedding and I am also sporting a pair of navy heels to match the boys.”
“The bridesmaids are wearing blush coloured dresses with navy heels which give a little hint of Audrey Hepburn style and they look very glamorous indeed.”
“My little flower girl who is my goddaughter has a gorgeous ivory dress to match mine with a navy belt to tone with the other girls and boys.”
“Let’s hope we don’t all get too wet!”
“There are so many other little details going on that will make the day our own, and so the countdown is on for our exciting day, we can’t wait!”
Thank you so much to the couple, their gorgeous pooch and Kathryn for sharing their beautiful Yorkshire Engagement shoot.
The Moors have a certain romantacism that harkens back to Wuthering Heights and add a little snowfall and its really quite pretty if probably baltic.
Very much looking forward to seeing the couples forthcoming nuptials and hoping they have very much kinder weather.
