Today I am delighted to share this gorgeous Durham Engagement Shoot with a lovely couple from the USA choosing this beautiful city to create some amazing pre wedding memories.
Images were captured by Gavin Forster Photography.
Gavin Forster is based in the Tyne valley, just outside Newcastle, in the North East of England.
He feels lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, only a stones throw from the stunning Northumberland where he was born and raised.
He is a full-time professional photographer but hasn’t always been.
Back in 2003 he graduated from the University of York with a BSc in Chemistry and an MRes in Clean Chemical Technology, but a chemistry career certainly wasn’t for him.
He wanted a job where he could make a real difference and loves helping people so he began a career in environmental and community development.
After years of helping others and making a real difference to inner city Leeds (Yorkshire) and areas of Hexham (Northumberland) he took the plunge and turned his ‘part time’ photography work into a full time business.
A decision that he is so pleased he made as he absolutely loves photography and the opportunity to be creative.
His unique style of wedding photography can be summed up in three words – natural, simple, personal.
He says of the couple, and the shoot…
‘
“A few weeks ago, I was contacted by an awesome couple from New York City who are over in the UK while Chaz is studying in Durham.”
“With Durham being such a stunning place, they wanted to capture their love over here before they travel back to the U.S.”
“We started in the University Halls at Durham Castle – possibly the most stunning set of university halls in the UK.”
“Durham Castle is a massive change from my student digs – the 60’s built Goodricke College in York.”
“Construction on the building started in 1072 no less! It’s all a very stunning place.”
“As it goes, the university have just announced that there are more spaces that can be used for civil ceremonies, which means more weddings and more cool photo opportunities!”
“There are so many little places with amazing light in the main courtyard – we just had to utilise them.”
“We got some funny looks from the passing workmen, but as ever the images are what makes it worth while… I don’t mind getting funny looks for lying on the ground and hiding in the trees!”
“From there, we carried on to the super iconic Durham Cathedral, built in 1093! We didn’t get to go inside and the roof is currently getting a little TLC but it’s still a great backdrop.”
“We carried on to some of my more secret locations around the area that have cracking floors, walls and the odd notice board for some creative shooting.”
“As you can tell, this pair loved the walk and just being in each other’s company.”
I hand over to Bride to be, Donminique…
“Chaz and I met through mutual friends after college while vacationing in Miami, Florida.”
“He proposed on July 31, 2016 at the National Harbor in Maryland, during my Birthday Brunch that he planned for me. Both of our families were there and it was really lovely.”
“We e are currently living in North Carolina with plans to relocate soon for work, so we have once again put our wedding planning to a halt.”
“We have not set a wedding date yet, however, we are leaning more towards a destination wedding since we both love to travel.”
