The most special bond and privilege that Growing Older Together brings

Today I want to focus on the most special bond and privilege that growing older together brings, and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of an amazing couple, Jane and Bob, sharing a lifetime of commitment and love.

As we grow older together, as we continue to evolve with each passing year, but there is one thing that will never change.. the ability to keep falling in love with our someone special.

Images were captured by Enchanted Photography – by Marla Michele Must who brought together a fantastic photo shoot to celebrate this wonderful milestone.

Marla says of the couple…

I’ve lived across the street from this wonderful couple for the past 10 years.

I would often catch glimpses of them out my kitchen window as they took walks arm in arm almost daily, caring for each other in the most loving way.

Although his health has deteriorated somewhat and their walks have slowed down, nevertheless, they continued walking.

One day we stopped to chat, and I asked them how long they’ve been married.

They said were approaching their 50th wedding anniversary. I asked if I could photograph them to celebrate this amazing milestone, and during our portrait session they shared some of their love story with me;

It all began as a campus romance. They were Introduced in 1969 by a colleague at Oakland University in the student centre.

They were both members of the faculty in the English department, and it appears English is truly the language of love.

Bob recollects when they met that Jane was wearing a short two piece white outfit that he remembers fondly.

They were introduced by  colleague in Fall 1969 but their relationship started slowly at first as friends.

Just over a year later a spark was ignited and within 8 months they married on July 10th 1971.

From then they enjoyed a 30+ year academic career with Bob establishing a national reputation in Film studies, and Jane concentrating on poetry and literature with both publishing several books too.

The couple believe that sharing interests as they do like travel, as well as pursuing individual projects, interests and activities, alongside the support of family and friends and faith is a solid basis for making a marriage work.

That alongside always being mutually appreciative, being an encouragement to one another, building each other up, and being grateful for the small as well as the big things.

Its about the moments, the miracles, the joy, the pain and the hardships, and all the experiences we go through together that constitute that lifetime of commitment.

It was once said that ‘’Love is not a matter of counting the years, but making the years count.’’ – Michelle Amand, and that could not be more true.

From the first moments of their session I witnessed chivalry in its finest form as he walked around to open her car door and made sure she was situated safely in the passenger seat.

Jane wore her wedding dress and veil from their July 10th, 1971 wedding, and Bob wore a stylish blue suit for our portrait session.

Jane thought that he looked very handsome, and surely she was the luckiest woman in the world.

The power of love and strength is what that helps couples maintain the intimacy, connectedness, empathy, and feelings of security and inner peace through from those first days of a relationship to these golden years and Jane and Bob are a shining example to us all.

Every image lights up sharing that special bond that growing older together brings…and that ability that whatever life throws at you the ability to fall in love over and over again with each other is everlasting.
