Today I am very excited to share an awesome 1950s Americana inspired Wedding at The Ponderosa with fabulous DIY touches.
Images of the day were captured by Maryanne Scott.
Maryanne captures natural & romantic wedding photography for weddings in Yorkshire & Derbyshire.
She says of her Photography…
“I always knew that I would find my passion eventually, it just took me 15 years of working in insurance to find it.”
“I’ve always been super creative, whether it was writing & publishing cookbooks or painting, I just love to make things. And I always knew that I should be doing something creative.”
“So when my husband Andrew bought me my first DSLR camera back in 2006, little did he know that he would awaken a monster…”
“I think he expected that it would be another fad, like the hand painted christmas cards or the cookbooks, but much to his suprise (and mine) all these years later I’m still as passionate about photography as I was then.”
“In 2007 I started my first website & blog, I documented the highs and lows of photography and my own life behind the lens.”
“I fell in love with photography, and with Andrew’s support, I took the huge leap into wedding photography in 2010.”
“I adored documenting all the special moments on the wedding day and telling the story of such a wonderful day. I fell in love with photography, and nothing else has filled me with as much enthusiasm & enjoyment.”
I hand you over to gorgeous Bride Emma…
How did you meet?
“We met on a dating website (smooch.com) in October 2011 and after a few months of exchanging messages and phonecalls we decided to meet.”
“Chris was in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire at the time whilst I was in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.”
“We enjoyed our first date in Starbucks on Jcn 27 of the M62 and never looked back!”
“We had a rough start as I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 4 months into the relationship and a severe car accident 4 months after that.”
“Chris was my absolute rock and made the decision to move up to Yorkshire so he could [in his words] keep an eye on me!!”
When did you get engaged?
“Chris proposed on Easter Sunday 2013 by bringing me breakfast in bed!”
“He’d arranged 2 bunny rabbit silhouettes with the words “Emma will you marry me” written across them!”
“After I finished squealing he finally got down on one knee with the ring! I can’t even recall saying yes at the time!!”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of planning our wedding.”
“I started researching almost immediately. I knew i didn’t want the “cookie cutter” wedding that I had seen.”
“Both Chris and myself like to think we’re into a more alternative lifestyle, both heavily tattooed, listen to most kinds of music and very much drawn to the style and feel of 1950’s Americana.”
“We knew we wanted to have lots of elements in the wedding that reflected our personalities (and my unhealthy obsession with leopard print!!). I was (and still am) addicted to reading the Rock n Roll bride blog where I sought out lots of ideas and inspiration.”
“I like to think I’m quite artistic and liked the idea of making a lot of the decorations and accessories myself.”
“I had seen button bouquets at a wedding fair i attended and loved the look of them.”
“It took a fair few attempts i was I was so happy with how they turned out!!”
“The most fun I had in the run up to the wedding was having my wedding dress made.”
“Rachel and Charlotte and Legend Bridal were absolute superstars.”
“I got a dress of my dreams that its safe to say no one else will have! I got to sit down and design my dress on paper, pick the fabrics and watch as it materialised into my wedding dress. It was so perfect!!!”
When did you get Married?
“We got married on June 14th 2014.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“My fave bit was getting married to the most amazing man on the planet in front of all the people I love most in the world!!”
” a close second by swishing around in my gorgeous dress!!!”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
“If you want to DIY things for your wedding START EARLY!!!”
“It takes so much longer than you think it will! And if you’re anything like me you’ll try and do a bit too much!”
“Don’t go TOO crazy! I massively underestimated the length of time it would take to get things the way I wanted!”
“Most importantly, our biggest advice to couples getting married is to stay true to yourself.”
“Don’t do things (or not do things!) just because its how you think it should be done.”
“It’s your day, do it your way!!!! Oh and brides…get yourself some flat shoes for the evening!!!”
