Derek says of the couples day…
“It’s always a pleasure to be able to shoot a wedding in an iconic landmark in Edinburgh.”
“Louise & Niall’s wedding at Dynamic Earth was just perfect!”
“I started the day in Musselburgh at Louise’s parent’s house and then headed into Holyrood to meet up with Naill in the boys in a local bar.”
“Following a lovely ceremony we got some great shot’s up on Arthurs Seat with Edinburgh’s skyline providing the perfect backdrop, before heading back to their reception.”
I hand over to stunning Bride Louise to share her story…
How did you meet?
“We met at work, Bank of New York Mellon in Edinburgh five years ago.”
“Although we worked for different departments we were both involved in the same meetings and got to know each other over time.”
“One day Niall invited me for a drink after work and we hit it off.”
Tell us about the Engagement
“We got engaged in 2014 a few months before we had our son Alex, who’s now 18 months old.”
Tell us about your Wedding Planning Journey
“We contacted every possible wedding venue in the Edinburgh and Lothian’s area to see what packages they offered.”
“We also came up with a draft guest list to get an idea of numbers.”
“Based on this we thought the best package available to us was offered by our chosen venue Dynamic Earth.”
“Not only could they cater for our numbers but they offered something slightly different from the bog standard wedding venue, allowing the guests to take the tour of the exhibition as part of the evening entertainment.”
“With the venue sorted we quickly contacted Derek Christie Photography to secure his services as we had been to many weddings which he had done the photography for and we just loved him, as do a lot of our guests.”
“We then chose our wedding band Franco, although we had never seen them live.”
“After listening to them online we thought they would be what we were looking for from a band and they were brilliant! The dance floor was never empty!”
“All the rest of our suppliers were local.”
“I got my dress from Isabella Bridal in Musselburgh, I have known Sheila who owns this shop for a while and would never have went anywhere else.”
“I went for a princess dress, it was huge, not something I ever thought I would have picked, however after trying on literally 27 dresses I found the one.”
“It was called Romano by Ronald Joyce. I went with my mum and we both loved it. I also got my four bridesmaids dresses from here too.”
“Niall chose his kilts from the Kilt Hire Co, also based in Musselburgh and picked the tartan Hebridean Storm.”
“My flowers were by Demi’s Florist in Portobello. I had several appointments with Demi to make sure we got everything just right.”
“Not only did she do my bridal flowers and buttonholes but she also did my table centre pieces.”
“We chose cherry blossom branches in tall vases and also had cherry blossom trees.”
“To make it even more special Demi also put end flower pieces on each chair going down the aisle.”
“She dressed the venue amazingly and it was perfect.”
“On the morning of the wedding I was so excited for the flowers being delivered to my parents as it had all just been imagined. They were everything and more when they arrived.”
“For the bridal party hair, we used my good friend Shelley Anne, who owns Hair Gossip in Musselburgh.”
“She is simply the best at hair ups, myself and my fiends have used her a lot in the past and think she is very good at what she does.”
“Shelley came to the house on the morning of the wedding and made us feel very relaxed and made sure we were all happy before she left.”
“I chose Cat Baillie for my make up, who was also local.”
“I had heard lots of good things about Cat, as she also did my cousins make up for her wedding.”
“So I decided to book in for a trial, and used my trial for my Christmas night out with the girls.”
“I loved the make up she had used and I could just tell from her studio how experienced she was. It was a given I wanted her to do my make up for my wedding.”
“Cat also came to the house in the morning and did myself, my mum and my bridesmaids make up.”
“We were all thrilled with our make up, and a lot of my friends commented on how good it was too.”
“Cat was brilliant and stayed till we left the house to help where she could and touch up our make up before we left.”
“We chose Independent Chauffeurs Scotland for our wedding cars, a Mercedes Viano for the girls and a Mercedes S Class for me and my dad.”
“We needed a vendor who had a Viano due to the number of bridesmaids and also so as my mum could travel with them.”
“The cars were fab, beautifully presented and the S Class stayed until after the ceremony to take us for our photos.”
What was the best part of your day?
“It’s hard to pick a best part of our day as everything went exactly as we wanted it too if not better on the day.”
“However, for me a special moment was the car journey up to the venue with my dad and for him to walk me down the aisle.”
“Niall’s special moment was the evening reception after the first dance. He felt as though it was the first time we got to relax properly with all our friends and family.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting Married?
“Our advice to anyone else planning a wedding would be to ensure you have a rough estimate of numbers before you book anything.”
“Seek advice from previous bride and grooms and try and use vendors who you know or have been recommended.”
“We set a budget early and Niall had a wedding spreadsheet which kept track of absolutely everything which made everything so much easier.”
Thank you so much to Derek for sharing this gorgeous Edinburgh Wedding.
Love the pretty cherry blossom throughout the styling and the subtle travel theme in the table plan and table names.
A wonderful family celebration, and some outstanding images of the couple and the city captured on the iconic Arthurs Seat.
