Gorgeous Bride Laura tell us all about her stunning Devon Wedding…
How did you meet?
We actually went to the same school, although Matt is 4 years younger than me, he was actually in her sister’s class!
Fast forward a few years later and I spotted a tall dark handsome rugby player walking into the local nightclub.
The story goes that I stalked him around the club until he noticed me!
The rest is history!
Tell us about the Proposal…
After buying a house and having two children together, we decided to take a family holiday to Disneyland.
After 8 years together I was beginning to give up hope of a proposal but little did I know Matt had planned to propose in Disneyland and had bought a ring in readiness.
Unfortunately each evening Matt attempted to take me on a romantic stroll around the hotel grounds I had other plans and was already snuggled up in bed half asleep!
On the final night Matt decided tonight had to be the night so in the pouring rain and gale force winds Matt insisted him and I leave the children with my family and that we should head out for a walk…in the rain!
Matt then plucked up the courage and got down on one knee (accidentally in a puddle!) and asked me to marry him!
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
My sister and brother in law were actually getting married 9 weeks before us so everything was pretty chaotic for our whole family it felt we were here there and everywhere with various different appointments and fittings to attend.
Although it was lovely too to all get together and discuss all our different plans and ideas and it was lovely to have someone so close to share the journey with.
Any special touches/DIY?
We wanted our Devon wedding as stress free as possible so decided the only DIY we would do would be to make the favours, which were actually really fun to do together.
We asked a chef in the family to make us some chutney and we crafted little hessian lids with lace bows and wooden tags.
We sat down one evening with a bottle of wine and some music and had a really good time making them all.
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
When we first got engaged I came across a picture of the most beautiful bouquet by The Secret Garden Flowers and I thought that is what I want.
I then based our whole theme around that bouquet, the flowers were fifth avenue (dusky pink/purple) and polo (cream/pale pink) roses, with gypsophila, white lisianthus, limonium, romantic bubbles and eucalyptus.
The bridesmaids wore a suede rose dress, the flower girl had a suede rose sash and the men had the suede rose cravats and pocket hankies to match. Everything else was themed very natural and floral.
What was the best bit of your day?
The best bit of the day was actually the bit I had previously worried and stressed about the most – getting ready on time, walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Matt for the first time.
Looking back I worried about every little detail but actually everything went so smoothly and was just perfect from then on that I just couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the whole day.
My favourite part of the day was right after we got married and I was able to spend some time with just us, and our families and friends to take a moment to take it all in!
The location was great too being outside in the garden in the sun and everyone enjoying themselves
Is there anything you would do differently?
Not a single thing, we were very fortunate in that our parents were supportive of our decisions which meant we were able to plan the Devon wedding we had always dreamed of and lucky for us everything went completely to plan.
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
Do not overthink the plans, keep it simple and have fun – the day passes you by so quick you need to enjoy every moment
