Today I am thrilled to share this beautiful Harry Potter inspired Wedding in Milton Keynes at Cruck Barn with navy blue and yellow accents.
The couple are Leah and Hannah and images of their day were captured by Ayelle Photography & Video.
Ayelle Photography & Video are Adam and Liz based in Olney, Milton Keynes but who love to travel with their work across the UK and abroad!
More than just photographers, they are a husband and wife team who specialise in natural and fun photography, and their shoots are always relaxed, enjoyable and a stress free experience!
They are a like minded couple who understand your needs, feelings and emotions, and are passionate about what they do, who they meet and the magical moments they capture.
Gorgeous Bride Leah says of the couples Harry Potter inspired wedding…
How did you meet?
We initially met online on a dating site but the link up was purely by chance.
Hannah was in Newcastle doing a resit for an exam that she failed (thankfully) and I came up on her ‘people online locally’ page.
If Hannah hadn’t failed the exam we may never have met!
We then arranged to meet up but before confirming the details of the date or swapping details I got locked out of the dating app.
I was completely panicked and tried to contact the company who made the app for hours with no luck.
However I finally managed to get access and it went from there.
Our first date was at a local bar playing pool – its the only time I have ever beaten Hannah.
Tell us about the Proposal…
The proposal was amazing (in Leah’s opinion).
Hannah sat me down at home on the anniversary of the day we met and told me that she’d made a video scrapbook of our relationship.
She started playing it on the TV but I wasn’t really paying attention and kept being distracted by our cat which Hannah found very annoying.
The video turned out to be a cartoon that Hannah and our best woman (at the wedding) Sam (who is great at drawing) had made and put together to a song (I Choose You by Sara Bareilles).
At the end of the cartoon the drawing of Hannah got down on one knee and proposed to the cartoon of me.
When I turned round Hannah had a ring out!
Tell us about your wedding planning journey…
It was a bumpy ride planning the wedding. Initially we were due to get married in August 2018 but soon realised that doing a 200 mile house move (Newcastle to Bedford) and organising a wedding in a 6 month period was going to be impossible.
We moved down to Bedford in September 2018 and re-booked the wedding for August 2019.
Originally we had booked a photographer from Newcastle who agreed to travel down to our wedding, but a few months before the wedding he sold his business and said that he was unable to cover our wedding.
Luckily we attended a wedding fair at Cruck Barn and met Adam and Liz from Ayelle Photography who we LOVED!
Once in Bedford the first thing we booked was our venue Cruck Barn (even before the wedding fair) and after this our entire day was planned around the venue.
Unfortunately Cruck Barn didn’t have a wedding license and it cost too much to purchase one so Hannah and Leah had to think outside the box.
Eventually we decided to do the legal part of the ceremony at Bedford Registry Office the day before with only our witnesses and have a humanist ceremony at the barn which we count as our actual wedding day.
Any special touches/DIY?
There were lots of special touches and DIY bits for our Harry Potter inspired wedding.
Sand Ceremony: During our ceremony we had a sand blending aspect where Hannah and I poured sands (each a different colour to reflect our personalities) into a heart shaped glass container which we have now kept so that when we start a family we can add our child’s sand to the container too.
Favours: We handmade wands (from chopsticks and a glue gun) and painted these and also made personalised snitches (from ferrero rocher and printed wings)
Table Decorations: All the tables were themed around Hogwarts classes so all the table decorations were designed (by Hannah) and made out of various seemingly random things ordered online.
Floating Candles: Candles were put up with fishing wire so that they appeared to be floating
Signs: All wedding signs and the table plan were drawn freehand by Hannah’s niece Emily
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
The colours were yellow and navy and the theme was Harry Potter.
Hannah and I love Harry Potter and wanted this reflected in our wedding.
What was the best bit of your day?
Everything was perfect! The most fortunate part however, was the weather being nice as we risked getting married outside.
Is there anything you would do differently?
Both of us would definitely have eaten more.
We were so busy chatting to everyone and it went by so quickly that we barely tasted anything and particularly regret missing out on the lemon tier of our wedding cake.
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
We would definitely say to start planning early and to try to pay things off a little at a time. Also that there are lots of little extras to plan into the budget.
Most of all enjoy the day – it goes quicker than you think.
