A beautiful New Jersey Beach and Backyard Halloween inspired wedding with stunning seasonal tones

Today I am thrilled to share a beautiful New Jersey Beach and Backyard Halloween inspired wedding with stunning seasonal tones.

Images were captured by The Fox And The Hare Photography.

The Fox & The Hare Photography is based in the Northern New Jersey area and embraces the East Coast of the USA and beyond.

Each of the team have backgrounds in fine art photography, Jen has a B.A. in Studio Art with concentrations in Photography & Art History from Drew University.

Steven has a B.F.A. in Photography from Ramapo College, and they have been photographing weddings together for nearly a decade.

Wedding photography is special to them because traditions and memories are incredibly important in all of our lives.

They say of the couples Halloween inspired wedding day…

Jen & Ken had planned their entire wedding day to be at the Wave Resort in Long Branch, NJ.

They were lucky enough to still have the ceremony and majority of their photos done as planned at the venue.

When covid changed their ability to hold the reception at Wave Resort, they had to re-plan for a backyard reception.

In our opinion, they had the best of both worlds! The ceremony and photos they wanted by the beach, with a woodsy Halloween backyard wedding reception!

It was one of the first days that really felt like fall, and there was a chill in the air especially by the ocean but the sun was still shining.

The couple shared a beautiful ceremony in the upstairs loft space of the Wave Resort overlooking the water.

Then later, after heading back to their house, golden hour was beginning right away and we brought the couple out back behind the house among the woods for some portrait shots.

These two definitely threw a classy “Hallowedding.” The theme wasn’t in your face, just reminiscent in the colour scheme and some of the decor around the backyard.

Under the tent, their sweetheart table included a display of candles and some cool orange-velvet chairs they thrifted.

Alongside this there were multiple amazing food truck options, plenty of candy and drinks.

I hand over to beautiful Bride Jen…

How did you meet?

Despite going to the same high school (he’s two years older & it was a large school), we officially met in college.

We had some mutual friends and ended up at the same house party and hit it off!

What makes your relationship special?

We really are a perfect match. Where I’m impatient, he’s composed. Where he gets overwhelmed, I’m prepared with a solution.

We balance each other, and are a great team!

How did you know your partner was the one?

He claims that he “had a feeling” the first time he ever saw me in our high school hallway, long before we ever met.

I knew the day after we met, when he surprised me and my friends with bagels in the morning!

Tell us about the Proposal…

I’m weirdly obsessed with trains. Not like lame NJ Transit trains… but big old fashioned steam engines!

Ken took me to a steam engine train ride along the Delaware River, however, the steam engine was broken (so it was ultimately just a normal train) and there were barely any views of the river.

In fact, most of the views were litter, old thrown out mattresses and rusty broken down cars on the side of the track.

It was HILARIOUS and we were laughing the whole time. Then he popped the question as the conductor was snoring in the next seat over.

Tell us all about that ring…

I’m all about the ROCK. So we chose a thin, gold band with an oval diamond. Ken got a matching gold band, too.

What are you most excited about with wedding planning?

Before COVID, we were most excited about our venue, The Wave Resort!

We had searched all over New Jersey for a venue that was a hotel (because we wanted guests to travel easy), but that wasn’t a ballroom & had more of a modern/ industrial feel.

Not to mention we scored BIG with the incredible beach views.

As COVID came and wrecked our plans, we were still able to celebrate at The Wave with a delicious rehearsal dinner and an afternoon ceremony.

However we planned the backyard reception at the Critchlow’s home and just prioritized good food, lots of booze and to HAVE FUN which we did!

Tell us about your theme or style inspiration…

Our Halloween inspired wedding day colour scheme was pinks, fall reds and oranges, and some darker blues.

We’re going for a moody, romantic, boho vibe (moody but not too dark).

I was hoping for an overcast morning (followed by a BEAUTIFUL sun-soaked afternoon and evening) for our ceremony and just after because I dislike when beach photos are all “cheery” and “sunny” preferring when it’s stormy/fall weather.

Once we head to the backyard, everything will be very rustic/ boho/ old/ eclectic. This is when I’m hoping for the gorgeous sun-soaked, golden shots – inspired by our first dance song, Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves!
