Today I am thrilled to share this beautiful rainy Lake District Wedding with pretty homemade touches.
Hollie and Jon were married on wet August day surrounded by their loved ones but a little rain didn’t dampen the sunshine of their smiles.
Images were captured by Jenna Carpenter Photography.
Jenna Carpenter is a Wedding & Portrait photographer based in the Lake District, Cumbria.
Since a very early age she has always had a camera in her hands and this passion has now developed into her own business.
She is a lifestyle photographer, specialising in portraits and weddings, and loves capturing memories whether that is a cheeky grin on a child’s face or the beauty of a bride on her wedding day!
She says of her work…
“I think that doing a job that you love and want to get up every morning for is rare, and this passion is reflected in my work.”
“Each photo shoot I do is different and unique. I think that it is important to listen to your customers and value what they would like as well as being a little crazy in order to get that unique photo!”
I hand over to Hollie to share her story…
How did you meet?
“Myself an Jon met whilst working in Montgenevre, a ski resort in the Southern French Alps.”
When did you get engaged?
“We got engaged at one of our favourite places in the summer of 2014 at Lac de Montriond in the Alps.”
“It was a pretty hot day, but the glacial water was FREEZING when we jumped in for a swim afterwards.”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“Our wedding planning journey was a pretty easy one!”
“We knew exactly what we didn’t want!”
“As soon as the focus was on what we loved, our friends and our families and not what we SHOULD be doing it made decisions really easy to make.”
“We are blessed with being surrounded by lots of amazing people and so had lots of help along the way.”
When did you get married?
“We got married on the 14th August 2015 at St Michaels C of E Church, in Pennington.”
“This is the Church very near to where I grew up (so close that I had only a 1 minute drive from my parents the morning of the wedding).”
“We followed this up with a party at the Brown Horse Inn in the beautiful Winster Valley near Bowness-on -Windermere in the Lakes.”
“We have used this gorgeous pub with its amazing ales and food as a pit stop on many family walks, and as a proud Cumbrian there were no other contenders for our evening venue really.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“The best bit of the day for me was the dancing – we had the best wedding band ever, and it was seeing everyone’s faces having a wonderful time that reminded me how lucky both myself and Jon are.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
I have 3 bits of advice:
1. Do it your way! Have the day you’ve dreamed of, not someone else’s!
For example- invite the people you want, not the people you think you should invite.
2. As a caveat to the first bit of advice – let the people close to you help if they want!
For me this was as much our day as it was a day for my Mum and the people closest to me – I was more than happy for everyone to get involved.
My Nana, my sister and 2 of my best friends made the wedding cakes, my mum organised the bouquet and helped make my favours and organised some surprises for us (our own labelled bottles of beer!) at the venue.
My best friend’s mum made the most beautiful flower arrangements, our friend drove us to and from the church in his Land Rover (which Jon’s family had gone to town decorating).
Jon’s brother-in-law Joe is an awesome graphic designer who designed our invitations, and my bridesmaids helped bring the whole thing together with decorations and all the trimmings.
Basically pretty much everyone got involved, and because of this it felt like it was a day for everyone not just us.
3. Relax- stress can be a choice. Don’t choose to get stressed!
Thank you so much to Jenna for sharing this gorgeous Lake District Wedding.
Love all the gorgeous handmade touches, what a beautiful way to include your loved ones in your wedding experience.
Also whilst inclement weather is not what we hope for on our Wedding days, this lovely Wedding shows that having a rainy wedding day doesn’t really matter, love brings us sunshine.
Its often said though that a Rainy Wedding Day is in fact good luck and you will be blessed with great fortune.
With some pretty umbrellas and a can do attitude the weather can definitely not rain on your parade.
