Today I am thrilled to share this fun non traditional relaxed Australian Wedding in Sydney.
Images of the day were captured by Gemma Clarke Photography.
Gemma has been an AIPP Accredited Photographer since 2010.
Although she is based in Sydney, Australia she regularly travels for weddings.
This includes the Southern Highlands, NSW South Coast, Tasmania, Rural NSW, Finland, the UK and Europe.
She describes herself as reliable, professional, and fun and her imagery style as candid, relaxed and artistic.
I hand over to Gemma to share her recollections of the couple and their day…
“The bride, Hayley is a very close friend of my husband’s sister and I met her for the first time at my sister in law’s 30th birthday party in May.”
“Hayley has been a big supporter of my work and when her friend, who is a photographer got pregnant and was unable to photograph her wedding she looked to me when I was having a special for end of the financial year bookings!”
“It seems like it was meant to be.”
“Hayley is also a photographer herself and loves to photograph parties and studio portraits”
“Tradition was something Hayley was happy to avoid for her wedding day – she was happy to do things differently.
“There were no flowers, a short wedding dress, no speeches, no first dance, a cocktail reception and no MC.”
“She wanted it to be as relaxed as possible! They chose the grounds at Netherby Homestead for their relaxed Fagan Park Wedding and Lily’s for the Cocktail Reception.”
“Hayley and Nick got ready together at their home in Blacktown with their two furbabies, Honey and Zoe.”
“Nick opted for Converses and although Hayley had some lovely white Converses, she decided her fancy sandals would be more comfortable for the day.”
“There were six guests at the ceremony. The bridal party and some family members were invited to join them after the ceremony at Fagan Park for photos.”
“One of the groomsmen decided that Hayley needed some flowers for their Fagan Park Wedding so he bought her a lovely little bunch of white flowers which we ended up using for the bridal portraits.”
“The Cocktail Reception afterwards was held in a gorgeous room with chandeliers, Chesterfield couches and a great dance floor.”
“The reception was also a relaxed affair with no particular formalities, just time to catch up with friends and family and enjoy some great food, drinks and some serious dance moves!”
“The theme was Black, White and Silver so the guests were encouraged to dress in these colours – my assistant and I did also!”
“With the Bride being a photographer she set up a DIY photobooth with remote control so people could take their own crazy photos. I might have jumped in there and captured some shots of my own of everyone having fun.”
“I think my favourite detail from Hayley’s wedding was the Ice-Cream Wedding Cake – it was stunning.”
“And my favourite moment was when we had clocked off for the night and Nick surprised Hayley and pulled her onto the dance floor to what is now ‘their song.”
“I hurriedly unpacked my bag and put my camera back together with a new card and raced to the dancefloor!!”
“I think these photos are my favourites – so much happiness!”
“Congrats Nick and Hayley on such a relaxed and fun wedding day!”
I hand you over to gorgeous Bride Hayley….
How did you meet?
“We were High School Sweethearts as Nick and I went to senior high together.”
“We went to an 18th birthday party with our friends, and he offered me a lift as I did not have my licence then”
“We had mutual friends so everyone was going together as a crowd.”
“We didn’t speak much on that first night but when we saw at each other at school we would stop and talk, ask if were going to the same parties on weekends and get lunch together most days.”
“A few weeks later I ‘lost’ my phone and asked him to call it so I could hear the ringing. Our relationship blossomed from there.”
Tell us about the Engagement
“We always knew we were going to get married. Nick and I never discuss major things. It always just “happens”.
“It was the long weekend of October 2014.”
“We really wanted to make something of the weekend and not just sit at home.”
“The idea of shopping for an engagement ring came up and off we went.”
“We went to every jewellery store in the shopping centre.”
“All the rings I had been attracted to over the years were well over $10,000 but once I put them on my finger I did not like them.”
“Although Nick said could spend whatever I wanted I couldn’t justify spending so much on a tiny thing I might one day lose or break.”
“Nick pointed out a ring out that was unusual to me, but as he liked it I tried it on and LOVED it.”
“We looked at similar rings but this was my favourite and it didn’t cost $10,000! So we ordered it that day and it was the longest six weeks ever!”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“I wanted the wedding to be small, easy and simple – so that’s exactly how the planning went.”
“I did 90% of it alone. Which made it surprisingly easy. A few hiccups such as my original photographer falling pregnant BUT I got a better replacement.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“Definitely the ceremony and the moments after. It was small, quick, casual and perfect.”
“The weather was great, everyone was so happy. I could feel happiness bursting in the air. Nick and I also felt very relaxed.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
“The wedding planning is as hard or easy as you want to make it.”
“If you want to spend a lot and have an extravagant wedding, do it.”
“If you want a small budget, less people, less stress, do it.”
“My small casual wedding could not have gone better – and all the feedback from guests was amazing. They loved it as much as we did.”
“Weddings also seem to bring out the best and worst in people – so I suggest to plan with just you and your future husband/wife if possible.”
“Therefore no negative input from others and you can do whatever you like.”
Thank you so much to Gemma for sharing this beautiful relaxed Australian Wedding.
