Today I am excited to share this glamorous Scottish White Wedding at The Waterside with hints of teal.
Its a privilege to share special days, but its even more lovely to feature the Weddings of those that you know personally and I have known Aimees family for a long time.
Her and Kyles beautiful Big Day was the culmination of 3 years of planning and they celebrated in style surrounded by family and friends.
Images were captured by Imagine Images.
Imagine Images are a husband and wife team of wedding photographers from Glasgow, who are partners in life as well as Business.
They describe their photography style as natural and relaxed.
I hand over to gorgeous Bride Aimee to share her story….
How did you meet?
We never really know how to explain this when people ask.
We like to keep it to through a mutual friend at the time and kind of through Bebo (what people used before Facebook)…
However, we really met through my ex ‘friend’ who we were both supporting as they were hosting at a club night at Diamond Dolls in Glasgow.
Anyway, we were both seeing people at this point and it wasn’t until we both became single that Kyle added me on Bebo and then we kind of just got chatting from there.
We chatted for a few months before I invited Kyle out for my birthday and then we went on our first official date the day after.
Almost 9 years later and we are married with 3 beautiful babies!
Tell us about the Proposal…
So Kyle is pretty chuffed over his proposal, as was I of course.
He managed to win us a voucher of £2500 via a Facebook competition for The Blue Parrot Company, who we ended up using for our white LED dancefloor, star lit back drop and our amazing mirrored table tops.
This was one of my favourite parts of the décor on the day, all because of how special it was!
Anyway it’s Kyle’s birthday and I was working all day so Kyle went in to Glasgow to do a bit of shopping himself.
At the end of the day I was told to hurry home as he had some surprises for me!
When I got home I remember Kyle standing in the living room with a big grin on his face.
He walked towards me with a bag full of goodies including perfume, shoes and other thoughtful things.
I was confused as I thought to myself ‘it’s his birthday, not mine’!?
He then told me there was one more surprise for me in the baby’s cupboard.
I got very excited as I thought he had got me the pregnancy pillow I had wanted for a while as I was very uncomfortable at 10 months pregnant…
But it was even better…
I looked inside the cupboard to find our baby’s first teddy bear holding a box with a beautiful, sparkly ring in it!
I turned around to find Kyle down on one knee where he then asked me to marry him amongst other lovely words!
Totally clueless me hadn’t even noticed he had been playing ‘our song’ on repeat since I had come in and he was even wearing the same top he wore the night we first (officially) met!
Safe to say it was a birthday he would never forget as I obviously said yes!
Tell us about your wedding planning journey…
I’m going to say ‘I’ a lot instead of ‘we’ as to be perfectly honest, it was myself that took full control of the whole wedding planning.
Kyle would have settled for a very small, simple wedding whereas I like to do things BIG! It turns out I am also a bit of a control freak when it comes to planning anything.
I do remember being upset that Kyle didn’t seem interested in the colour of the bridesmaids dresses, the icing on the cake and the difference between one photographer to the next but in the end I was extremely glad as I got to plan the whole day exactly as I envisioned it.
We did both choose The Waterside together, seeing as it was the crucial part. It had just opened so was new and very modern.
It was by the beach and looked across to the isle of Arran which is somewhere very special to us as a family.
The exterior and interior décor were also my colours, the suite we held our wedding in was called ‘Kyle’ and the menu that we chose was called ‘Iona’ (my sisters name) so it was all very meant to be.
We didn’t look at any other venue and booked our date in August 2015 for April 2018, giving me plenty of time to plan and us both plenty of time to save and squeeze in 2 more babies.
Baby no3 was a very big surprise!
Once we booked our date I put every spare minute in to looking in to all of our suppliers and had pretty much everything booked by April 2016!
This was great as I didn’t have the stress of lot’s of planning while managing 3 kiddies under 4!
Apart from when it came to my dress… I really panicked about this as I was going to be due 7 months before our wedding and didn’t know what shape or size I would be.
I went on the hunt as soon as I found out I was expecting and luckily found my dream dress in the first shop!
It had to be the most expensive one, but it was so me!!
Everything really went quite smoothly except we were let down only months before by our florist who was going to be a huge part of our day / décor.
My best friend’s sister ended up helping us out in the end though and I just feel it was so meant to be as it was so special to have her play such a huge part in our day and she did the most incredible job.
I could not have been happier and have since cried over how amazing our flowers were!
Any special touches/DIY?
I did quite a bit of DIY and think I looked at every idea on Pinterest for all the little touches, which actually everybody commented on making the day so special to us so was well worth all the time that they took!
A few things I made up were toiletries baskets for the ladies and gents, a blanket basket for the evening, glow sticks, flip flops, a pimp your prosecco station.
I also got Kyle to make up 100 ‘hangover kits’ which even my late granny’s 80 year old friend appreciated, without the hangover!
I also made a station for our polaroid guest book which was cool. Everyone had to take a polaroid picture of themselves then stick it to the book and write a message beside it! Another goodie from Pinterest but why do so many people always forget about the guest book!?
As for favours, we didn’t go OTT as I think they are a bit of a waste of money that people do just because they feel they have to!
We opted for donating money to the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my grandpa along with a Lindt chocolate truffle, because who doesn’t love a lindt truffle!? I also had everyone’s names laser cut in gold glitter to match our theme and so people could take them home too.
Anyway, I did a lot of DIY… Infact it took 3 full cars (2 jeeps) to take everything to The Waterside the night before.
This included 12 mirrored plinths and 200 chair covers as I chose to do them myself too!
I remember a girl who worked there saying the following day we would be a wedding they wouldn’t forget because of all the things I did myself and I hope this is true and a good thing because I like to make good impressions!
What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?
Our colour scheme was originally going be shades of blue /teal to tie in with the venue and as they are my favourite colours.
In the end though I decided I wanted it to be more glamorous and make it like a very big, white wedding and only add a splash of teal with the bridesmaid dresses and ribbon in our stationery (our table plan and names).
I also added gold glitter in to some DIY projects, on our personalised aisle and our stationery as I love glitter and anything that sparkles! So actually, I don’t really know what our exact colour scheme was but I’d like to say it all tied in and looked very glamorous on the day!
What was the best bit of your day?
Oh this is so hard as there are so many best bits…
1) I remember the car driving so slowly in to the car park with our bagpiper leading us in, I could see the bridesmaids, my mum and our boys going inside and that’s when it hit me that it was really happening and I was filled with so much excitement!
2) Seeing Kyle smiling like he did that day, especially when I walked down the aisle, I’ve never seen anyone smile so much and so big!
3) The SOS Secret Singers, they were 10/10! Usually there is a bit of a lull come the end of the meal and these guys were just fabulous!! They totally lifted the atmosphere again and everyone has complimented how amazing they were and what a great surprise!
4) Another highlight was everyone being up dancing at the end of the night to our band singing Set You Free by N-Trance! When I’ve heard the song since I well up as it just takes me back to the best day / night ever!
Kyle – “Like obviously seeing you and the kids for the first time but I remember walking back up the aisle to Signed, Sealed, Delivered and thinking I couldn’t be happier and I couldn’t stop smiling”
Is there anything you would do differently?
I am such a perfectionist so there are always things I would chance about anything!
I wouldn’t have paid what we did forur personalised aisle as it was paper thin material and just crinkled and didn’t look the way I wanted it to look in our photos especially!
I also wouldn’t have got my dress altered so tight as I ended up feeling so sick and like I couldn’t breathe by the end of the night because I had ate and drank all day.
When having my alterations done the most I ate was 2 weetabix and told the girl to take it in as tight as she could… Very bad idea!!
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
1) Remember it’s your day, not anybody elses so do what YOU want instead of trying to suit everyone else!
2) Try to enjoy the build up and take the whole day in!! Everybody told me this and I was so conscious of it but then the day came and it just went by in a flash and I don’t feel like I really took the time to just take it all in.
3) Get a videographer!!!! I see so many people saying they don’t want to spend the money but honestly, it’s one of the most important things you will spend your money on!
Photographs are soo lovely to keep, put in frames and look back on but video’s show you everything happening in motion and it brings back the whole atmosphere again and also let’s you see parts of the day that you might have missed.
I cannot express enough how much I think this is a must for everyone and you would regret it if you didn’t!!
4) Last but not least, if you have young children then we & our parents / anyone who would have been left to look after our 3 kiddies could not recommend The Event Nanny enough!!
We were very stressed about who was going to watch them, feed them, make sure they got naps etc & Jenn literally took all our worries away & made sure they were there when we wanted them & took them away to play, eat, nap etc when needed too.
She was just an absolute god send to us on the one day we did not want to be stressing about our kiddies!
Even though everything was basically a big surprise to Kyle apart from where the wedding was being held (he also loved the kilt, THANKFULLY) but he was happier this way and he worked so hard to help pay for the wedding of my dreams when I had to stop work! Thank you Kyle, I love you!
