Gemma Clarke is a Sydney based Wedding and Portrait Photographer.

She now specialises in short coverage wedding days (up to 6 hours) for smaller relaxed weddings.

Her ability to blend in with the guests means that everyone feels relaxed with having her around, and more candid photos of the guests and the couple are captured!

She’s also a big traveller and has a great love for small villages and especially loves making regular trips to visit the UK, Italy and Scandinavia.

She would love to photograph a wedding in Scotland one day. Anyone interested?

Gemma says of the couples day…

This Briars Country Lodge Wedding was relaxed, fun and very picturesque with the gorgeous seasonal colours!

Set on 15 acres of rural countryside, with their tranquil gardens and elegant atmosphere was perfect for the couples romantic New South Wales wedding.

Set apart by tranquil gardens, rural surroundings and elegant atmosphere, our Garden Conservatory and lake-side Gazebo

Shari and Shane celebrated their day with 70 of their closest family and friends with the focus being on having a great time!

Brightly coloured autumn leaves were a huge factor in choosing their wedding date and venue so the rich fiery tones aboundng everywhere on their April Big Day were perfect.

Ditching the first dance was a good decision as it did not suit them, they are usually the ones who help others dance!

So instead of their first dance, they decided to perform in a different way for their guests!

Shane played guitar and Shari sang, “I’ll Be There” by Leaving Thomas, and these truly talented musicians captivated all their guests.

Shari is not only a talented musician but also created the floral decorations for the reception and the boutonnieres.

Perhaps that creative talent was inherited from her mum who created all the shortbread favours for guests.

Shane’s contribution to DIY for the wedding, a wishing well created from a snare drum which was so creative.

Beautiful Bride Shari says of couple and their autumnal Autumnal New South Wales Wedding day…

How did you meet?

At band practice. It was my second time coming in as the singer and Shane was coming in as the new drummer.

Tell us about the Proposal…

Shane had asked if I wanted to go for a walk in the National Park which is strange because generally, I would be the one wanting to go for a walk not him.

I didn’t really feel like going because the football had just come on and I wanted to watch it.

He was very persistent saying “come on I really feel like going for a walk” so I thought OK fine I’ll go!

We got to the lookout and I turned around and he was on one knee with a ring.

Tell us about your wedding planning journey…

It was easy! We knew we wanted an Autumn wedding and a relaxed easy-going venue that our guests could stay if they wished.

We only looked at 3 venues and Briars Bowral had everything we wanted.

Accommodation on site where we would have the ceremony and reception, we could have a sit-down meal for dinner, it was a complete package.

Once we booked the venue all the other things like photographer, DJ and bits and pieces all fell into place.

Any special touches/DIY?

My mother made shortbread for our bonbonniere’s. I made the Groomsmen + Grooms boutonnieres.

We also did the flower decorations for the tables, and printed the menu and seating chart ourselves.

What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?

I knew I wanted black in my wedding dress so once I found the dress, we had to work around colours to compliment the black and the autumn colours of the leaves.

We ended up with blush pink, white, greenery and burgundy.

What was the best bit of your day?

Personally, I would say speeches, I love speeches at weddings.

Is there anything you would do differently?

When people say the day goes fast, they are not lying! I enjoyed everything about our wedding, it’s a big day but I still wish it could have been longer.

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Don’t take it too seriously, guests honestly don’t remember what decorations you had on the table or what your invitations looked like.

They remember whether the music was good and if they relaxed and could have a good time with you.

Organise a wedding that you will enjoy yourself because otherwise what’s the point.
