A gorgeous Autumnal Staffordshire Wedding with hints of Halloween and fiery tones at Pendrell Hall

Today I am thrilled to share this gorgeous Autumnal Staffordshire Wedding with hints of Halloween and fiery tones at Pendrell Hall.

Images were captured by The Dignums.

The Dignums are a husband/husband team of two fun and friendly wedding photographers, based in Wolverhampton.

They shoot all over the Midlands, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, and beyond.

Their work is colourful, expressive, moment driven, and a little bit different.

If you want two guys photographing your wedding day who feel like a couple of mates, chatting to your guests, and busting some moves on the dance floor, all the while taking amazing photos that show the awesome couple that you two are, and what an amazing wedding day you had, then there’s a strong chance they’re the right wedding photographers for you!

I hand over to beautiful Bride Jess to tell us about the couples Autumnal Staffordshire Wedding…

How did you meet?

The first time we met was Halloween in a taxi queue, our mutual friend Richard rather loudly told me that Dave, who was dressed in a poncho and matching sombrero, was single.

According to Dave, I then proceeded to look him up and down like he had come into my house and kicked my dog…

But the real love story started a few days later when we went out with mutual friends, and our similar appreciation of sarcasm came to light and a high five was gladly received.

Tell us about the Proposal…

It was the 13th August 2018, the number 13 has come up quite regularly in our relationship, and it was a gloriously sunny day in Florida.

We were on holiday with Dave’s family so I was in no way expecting it.

Dave said he needed to go the shop for some toothpicks and can I go with him, thrilling…

However, we ended up pulling up in front of a place called ‘Orlando Helitours’ the toothpicks were a ruse.

The guys there were amazing and took loads of pictures for us. I am still none the wiser at this point, I’ve never been in a helicopter so this was as exciting as it gets for me!

Our pilot took us around and showed us Disney, and was pointing out landmarks to us.

I turned round to look at Dave and he is holding this beautiful ring up to me with puppy dog eyes, and I just said ‘Are you serious?’ and started crying. Obviously I said yes.

We got back to the house where his parents, brother and sister in law were ready waiting with champagne.

Tell us about your wedding planning journey…

We had previously talked about getting married and what our perfect dates would be, and realised that Halloween fell on a Saturday in 2020 and it was a full moon, so we both already knew as soon as people started asking us about our Autumnal Staffordshire Wedding when we wanted to get married.

We booked the venue and registrar 1 month after the proposal and then went to the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Birmingham.

This was such an amazing place for couples looking for inspiration that is out of the ordinary, and its where we met and subsequently booked the majority of our wedding suppliers!

So up until Covid everything was smooth sailing!

When the first lockdown was announced we were making our wedding invitations and decided to go ahead and send them with an extra sheet about how we were watching the news closely and would keep everyone informed and safe if we can go ahead.

The announcement that weddings could go ahead again was amazing news to us, we cut our guest list down to a quarter of the original to fit with the guidelines of 30 people including suppliers, so it came as a massive shock us when 5 weeks out the numbers were slashed again.

However we were able to make it work as this time suppliers were not counted towards the numbers.

We won’t say it was easy, there were tears and talks of postponing to next year, but ultimately we decided that we just wanted a marriage and the wedding was just the first day of many more.

Our suppliers were ready with support, a massive shout out to Dione the planner at Pendrell Hall for answering all of our questions and just being so excited for us!

Any special touches/DIY?

We wrote our own vows together, which was a very cathartic experience and really changed the feel of the ceremony.

Daves two classic minis took centre stage too, and his love of Star Wars was on show too with a Deathstar ring box.

My love of the spooky macabre with pumpkins, fancy dress gifts and surprise vampire teeth was my contribution.

We also hired the amazing Jester Styles and 1st Call Murder Mystery team as things we are both interested in to entertain our guests.

What was the best bit of your day?

Honestly we can’t just pick one, so many wonderful people came together

Even though our guest list was dramatically reduced you could really feel the love throughout the whole day.

We got to spend so much time together, which wouldn’t have been possible pre-Covid.

Is there anything you would do differently?

On the day, no.

But leading up to the day we would have tried to stress less. A few things didn’t go exactly as we expected, our registrar was late due to flooding and we were really excited about full moon pictures but the clouds got in the way.

But the atmosphere of the day was just so overwhelmingly perfect that the small stuff just didn’t matter.

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Remember why you are getting married.

Talk to your suppliers, they love their jobs and will practically bend over backwards to ensure your day is perfect and safe.

Breathe!

Don’t worry about anyone else’s expectations, the things that other people were most unsure about are the things that they all talk about the most now.

All of our suppliers became our support network, COVID has left so many of them behind, but they are all amazing humans and deserve so much out of life.

Jo from the Couture Company made my dress, and I always left my fittings feeling like a new person.

Erin (Crafty Little Helper) and Gretel (Queenies Floral Design) did a brilliant job of turning already incredible Pendrell Hall into an autumn dreamland.

Mark, our wedding harpist went above and beyond by recording the songs we wanted rather than having him play live so that it reduced the number of people in the venue, which was such an amazing thing to do for us, we can’t thank him enough for that.

Our guests still talk about our entertainment, Jester Styles was incredible and 1st Call Entertainment were so communicative leading up to the day to make sure everything was perfect for us.

Obviously our photographers were phenomenal as well, and our photographs bring us so much joy. And the guys are awesome to work with.

From the buttonholes to the venue, everything and everyone was perfect, it was the best start to our spookily-ever-after.
