Stunning Bride Stefanie says of the couples beautiful Texan Christmas wedding…

How did you meet?

Riley and I met in 2009 while in high school, and were high school sweethearts.

After school  we went to two different colleges but made their way to Houston to be together in the same city.

Tell us about the Proposal…

Riley actually proposed to me twice!

The first time was a prom-posal. After winning one of my softball games, I was called to home plate as Riley prom-posed to her over the intercom. I said yes and the two have been together ever since!

For Riley’s birthday last Summer, I bought him tickets to New York just before Christmas.

Knowing that they had a trip planned, Riley took the opportunity on the Bow Bridge in Central Park to ask me to be his wife.

The funny thing is that as he was down on one knee, I had turned to take a selfie. I didn’t even notice I captured Riley on one knee until later.

I just assumed he had dropped something and thought he was picking it up. That was not the case!

He proposed only two hours after we stepped off the plane, so we could spend the rest of the weekend away celebrating.

Of course, I said yes, and it was the perfect moment on a beautiful day.

What colours did you choose for your styling?

For our wedding colour palette we chose Black, Cranberry, White, and Greenery.

Did you have any special touches or details?

I lost her father unexpectedly the year before the wedding, so included a few things throughout my wedding day to keep him close to my heart.

I am doing something a little different for my Father/Daughter dance. I asked a handful of men to all join in a dance with me. They are all men that have played a significant role in my life as I’ve grown up. It’s my way of honouring my dad that day.

This will be an emotional day without my dad. I will try to keep it together for my dance with all the men I have asked.

My mom will be walking me down the aisle and giving me away.

I wore my mother’s wedding dress from 1984. I am not changing anything on the dress except to make it fit. Inside the dress there will be a tie-dye heart representing my Dad.

Between Riley and me, there have been 5 loved ones that have passed away…my Bridesmaids will be alternating bouquet/lantern, etc. and each lantern will represent a loved one who has passed away. I plan for each lantern to be slightly different to represent each person.

The bright bracelets the groomsmen wore were a surprise from one of the groomsmen.

They said “Unbelievable” on them – which is a special word for my father.

The bridal party has known each other for years and have remained great friends for over a decade, all in all there was 11 bridesmaids/groomsmen.

Our day could not have been more perfect. We had a huge turnout of people and everyone enjoyed doing fun activities the following Saturday.

Made a lot of fun family and friend time.

Tell us about  the Decor…

I did a winter forest look with lots of greenery and pine cones. Pine cones are free if you go outside and pick some. I had friends and family gather several bags full.

For the pine, Home Depot gives the trimmings from the Christmas trees away for free! We just put them in buckets of water before the wedding. (Made my boutonnière’s with this, centre pieces, put them in jars, etc).

We were engaged before last Christmas, so I also bought a lot of things during after Christmas sales.

Tell us your Money saving tips…

Vista Print postcards for our save the dates, rsvp cards and thank you cards (you could also do this for your programs). I also did our invitations through vista print.

Doing a postcard allows for no envelope licking and cheaper stamps (.35 vs .49) that adds up after doing save the dates, thank you cards, and rsvp responses.

For our Groomsmen attire… Tiebar.com is awesome! And the suspenders were from Target for $13, button ups were also from Amazon.

We had the guys all wear their own black pants, socks and shoes. They appreciated the total being $56 (tie, shirt, and suspenders)

Our wedding was on a Friday (cheaper than Saturday) and was also a winter month (cheaper season).

Bride Stefanie shares her recommendations for future brides…

1. Be happy and be in the moment. I was so happy my wedding day that I couldn’t stop smiling.

At the end of the day what matters is you marry the person you love. I’m so happy I didn’t stress out at all on my wedding day (believe it or not…I’m type A)

2. I had everything in a box I wanted [my photographer] to take a picture of (rings, invitations, special details, etc)

Makes it really quick and easy on them and easy for you because you aren’t running around frantic trying to find each thing.

3. Spray deodorant is awesome! No one wants to have white clumps or to smell bad on their wedding day. I like Dove spray deodorant and it’s easy to reapply and you don’t have to worry about it messing up your dress.

4. I loved doing a first look. My husband and I have so many photos of the two of us to choose from and I love the variety of shots we got!

It really was a fun and sweet moment for the two of us.

5. I love props! You can see it in my engagement session and a little on the wedding day. I did plaid/flannel shirts with bridesmaids, fun socks, (wish I did a champagne shot), and since I wore my mothers wedding dress: I held a photo of her in her dress on my wedding day.

6. Registering on Amazon is awesome. Also, register for things you may not usually think of. We did an air mattress (has already come in handy), fun games to have, and we asked for some nice Christmas decorations.

7. Print out photo timelines for bridal party AND family members. Many family members left and took awhile for them to get back for pictures.

8. Use Excel to keep track of guests, expenses, etc. you won’t regret it!
