Beautiful Bride Kate says of the couples tropical theme Pennsylvania Wedding…
We wanted our guests to have the feeling that they are escaping from the rest of the world on a little weekend getaway.
The wedding required our guests to “flow” from different locations; starting in the chapel, then walking a few steps to a tent on the green for cocktail hour, then finally coming inside to the Palm Court for the reception.
The morning of our wedding was filled with excitement. We had both done so much planning since we got engaged, and we were so excited to see everything come to life.
The day began for us with hair, makeup, 90s music and mimosas for myself and my girls in the Double Tree’s Terrace Room, while the boys got started getting ready downstairs around noon.
In the morning, we surprised each other with gifts to commemorate the day. Scott giving me a stunning diamond necklace that perfectly matched my engagement ring, and topping it off with a beautiful heartfelt note.
Later, while Scott was taking a sneak peek at the reception decorations, he noticed a neon sign that said “My Love” – this is myself and Scott’s nickname for one another, and was my gift to him (to hang in our future home, someday).
One of my favorite moments of the day was when my parents helped me get ready. My mom surprised her with her “something blue” – a handkerchief that belonged to my godmother. Then, there was the “first look” with my dad, whose sweet reaction made me feel like a princess!
An important part of the wedding ceremony was the music.
As a couple we selected a list of love songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s to be played while the guests waited for the wedding to begin.
Scott and the groomsmen walked in to “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” by the Jackie DeShannon.
I remember how these songs calmed my nerves while I was waiting in the bridal suite for the wedding to begin.
I couldn’t wait to run down the aisle to see Scott, and my nerves turned into happiness when the ceremony began and I saw Scott smiling at me.
It reminded me of our first date, when Scott started smiling as soon as he saw her make my way down the street. We have come a long way since then!
The reception was filled with joy and dancing. We could feel the love in the room during speeches given by my dad, and my maid and matron of honor, and the best man.
Our first dance was to “Earth Angel” from the movie Back to the Future, one of our favourites.
We were so happy to have all of our family and friends together in one room.
We also really enjoyed having our beautiful sweetheart table, which was elevated and provided a great view of the entire crowd, so we could soak it all in together.
After dinner, we had so much fun dancing the night away. We could tell that after the year we have all had, everyone was ready to let loose.
Our wedding planner, Naticia, did an amazing job helping us bring the vision of our wedding to life.
The Palm Court at the Double Tree features four giant palm trees, so we wanted to incorporate them into our wedding’s “tropical” theme.
Our colour palette of oranges, yellows, and teals was reminiscent of the 1970s, and we played lots of classic oldies and love songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s to give an atmosphere of fun, light and romantic.
We also decided to incorporate some retro vibes into this style by using vintage coffee and cigar tins to hold our flower centerpieces, and by bringing in Norma Jean, a 1969 VW Beatle called “Norma Jean” for our photo booth.
We added pops of color everywhere, including tangerine colored napkins, slices of fresh fruit in our centerpieces, as well as lots of bold, beautiful florals, with some held in vintage cans that our family members helped us collect and make.
