A gorgeous vintage bohemian inspired Wedding in New Zealand at Christmastime

Today I am thrilled to share this gorgeous vintage bohemian inspired Wedding in New Zealand at Christmastime.

Brooke and Cass shared an intimate personal celebration with their family and friends with many personal and handcrafted details 1 whole year ago (New Zealand time).

Beautiful Bride Brooke shares the couples love story, and tell us about their stunning vintage bohemian inspired Wedding…

How did you meet?

We met in December 2015, I’d just returned home to New Zealand from a six month travel stint in America and the UK.

It just so happens that while I was away a friend of my mums had opened her own cafè and Cassandra was the manager.

t the time they were looking for a chef (I come from a hospitality background), so I stepped in to help out.

As it turns out, Cass makes a fantastic coffee and it was love at first sight… (Cass and the coffee!)

Tell us about the Proposal…

Aaaahh the proposal… we had gone away for the weekend to celebrate Brookes birthday.

We were checked in to a ocean view hotel room at a hotel in Tauranga NZ, and the weekend was spent relaxing, dining and drinking champagne.

On the morning of Brooke’s birthday we ordered room service and ate breakfast in bed, popped the bubbles and then I popped the question… right there in bed over Eggs Benedict and French pastries.

It was perfect!

Tell us about your wedding planning journey…

Our wedding planning journey was long-winded with lots of changing our minds.

We ended up moving from New Zealand to London in the second year of our engagement, tossed up a destination wedding, an elopement and going home for the event.

We landed on going home for our wedding, so all our bookings were made from London for a wedding in New Zealand in 2020.

We researched everything thoroughly, Instagram played a big part in our wedding planning journey, for reviews, pictures, videos, other weddings at our venue.

It was a great tool to use while being so far away.

Any special touches/DIY?

A lot of our vintage bohemian inspired wedding was DIY due to having a style not so budget friendly.

We sourced all our own florals (dried and fresh), all tableware (including 60 crystal & cut-glass wine glasses), 20 or so large floor vases which we painted white, we also had some custom made elements which really made the whole day feel personal.

Personalised wedding cookies were a hit and so cute! We also had personalised cocktail stirrers, a perspex cake topper, and home made relish (made by Cass’ amazing Nan) for our favours.

What was the theme / colour palette of your Big Day?

We went with a relaxed vintage boho feel, with accents of cream, neutrals and hints of rose, dried florals, pampas grass and cane furniture, with beautiful white umbrellas and a vintage fire truck as our food truck!

Did Covid have any impact on your Wedding Planning?

It sure did! We ended up having to cancel our big, lush wedding venue and opted for a smaller intimate day (covid restrictions on events).

We also changed the date of our wedding due to COVID, then changed it back to the original date because we just didn’t want to wait any longer!

Other than that, at that stage in New Zealand we were pretty safe to go ahead at a limited capacity, but we still had everything we needed and wanted.

What was the best bit of your day?

Sneaking away to a hidden spot sometime after dinner and getting to watch our families partying and laughing below was amazing.

Also right after we said “I do”, after we’d just walked back up the isle together, we looked at each other and said “What the f*ck, WE JUST GOT MARRIED!”

And then cried!

Is there anything you would do differently?

Not a damn thing, we’d do it all over again tomorrow if we could!

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Do exactly what you want, it’s your day, don’t let others make decisions you may not be happy with at the end.

If something you really want is out of your budget, DIY is the way to go.

And at some point, sneak away as a couple, breathe, have a quiet drink and watch the magic you created.
