From the very first moment Lizzie &Aaron reached out to me, I knew I was in for something really special – but nothing could have prepared me for just how wonderful the experience of partnering with them would be.

As lovers of architecture, art, and travel, this Californian couple chose to celebrate their marriage just the two of them in the town of Braemar, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland.

Their intimate elopement started with a humanist, handfasting ceremony at the decommissioned church of St Margaret’s of Braemar, and ended with a private evening of gourmet food and bespoke cocktails amidst the artful and history-laden walls of The Fife Arms.

The day also featured myriad tearful, personal details – an adventurous photography hike in the mountains – and an outfit change to die for.

Most of all, it was a day for celebrating those quiet moments that can often be overlooked during a wedding: it was a day for heartfelt laughter, unconditional closeness, and laidback intentionality.

The look and feel of the styling of the day was inspired by the unique way in which Dutch masters’ paintings can be dramatic and minimalist at the same time – they wanted it to be a celebration of simplicity, but in a beautifully curated and detail-rich way.

And so it was that on the 6th of February 2020 they said their vows of forever to one another, a new chapter in their story; this one sunny yet moody – solemn yet joyful – adventurous yet familiar – luxurious, but in the most meaningful of ways.

No pretention, no crowds, just love.
