Today I am thrilled to share this gorgeous and romantic intimate Cornish Elopement with pretty soft pink detail at Boho Cornwall.
Sometimes the loveliest weddings are when it’s nothing but two becoming one and their love for each other.
Weddings of the past have always been wonderful, but in Covid times when so much has been taken from us these special moments feel so much more beautiful, personal and meaningful.
Images were captured by Thomas Frost Photography.
Thomas Frost is a modern and creative Documentary wedding photographer in Cornwall, also covering Devon, the UK, and traveling all around the world.
He works in a documentary way, loving to shoot the whole day as it unfolds in a natural and relaxed style.
He is passionate about helping every couple visualize what they want and help them create it.
I hand over to Wendy to tells us about her and Nigels love story and their intimate Cornish Elopement…
How did you meet?
We are both second time around, with 5 grown up daughters between us and to date 4 grandchildren, last one born last Friday!
We met through mutual friends were having their annual post Christmas party 10 years ago.
I would normally have gone with someone, but they unfortunately couldn’t make it, so I thought I would just pop in and make my excuses to leave early.
Our other friend, just as I was leaving introduced me to Nigel with the immortal line …This is Wendy she is looking for a man!!
If the floor could have opened up and swallowed me whole it would have been a godsend!! Anyway the rest as they say is history!!
Tell us about the Proposal…
Last year, January 2020 we went to South Africa for a fabulous holiday.
We are both pretty adventurous and active, so a hike to the Lions Rump and then to the top of Lions Head on Day 2 seemed like a brilliant idea (Nigel’s suggestion).
I’m not great with heights and steep drops, but was fine on all the vertical ladders and was admiring the views at the top and the Dassies (little furry animals) when Nigel gave his phone to someone to take a photo of us with Table Mountain in the background.
I was beyond gobsmacked when he then went down on both knees and was so speechless I couldn’t answer until he prompted me!!! Definitely a surprise!
How did Covid change your wedding plans?
Having decided to plan a just the ‘two of us’ wedding we managed to finalise a date with Boho in Cornwall and arranged to have a family and close friends celebration back home a week later.
We then had a serious house fire on day one of lockdown in March and were totally consumed by trying to rebuild the top floor of our home, whilst we kept an eye on all the Covid updates having no idea if the wedding could go ahead.
At one point we thought the reconstruction would mean we couldn’t travel, but thankfully both the build and a gap in Covid restrictions left us hopeful of holding our elopement.
My dress maker Felicity Westmacott was wonderful and after a couple of masked meetings and lots of emails and phone calls we managed to create my beautiful dress. All our suppliers were incredible and we had the day of our lives!
What was the Best Bit of your day?
It is so hard to pinpoint the best bit of our day, it was all just so glorious.
From arrival at Boho, Maya and Tom could not have been kinder and more helpful, just a beautiful location and the exact relaxed vibe with the right amount of respect for the occasion thrown in that we craved.
Ione made me feel wonderful with her hair and make up skills and Tom, our photographer captured our day brilliantly, and he took us on a day full of adventure and fun, being inspirational in his choices and creating the most perfect memories.
We loved Oliver, our Morris 8 driver and we visited stunning areas of Cornwall initially in the mist, breaking into sunshine later in the afternoon.
What advice would you give to couples planning their day right now?
We were so lucky to have been able to have our day, and for us the ease of planning and help from our venue was incredible.
I think once you choose your venue, their supplier list is invaluable, they know everyone and only recommend people they truly trust.
We are so glad Maya and Tom had a great list .. I used this and looked at everyone’s websites and then called to talk to them directly, it made planning our intimate Cornish elopement so easy.
