A Stunning Autumnal Yorkshire Wedding at Ormesby Hall

Today I am delighted to share this stunning Autumnal Yorkshire Wedding at Ormesby Hall.

David and Nicola’s big day is vibrant with seasonal colour and there is even the odd Harry Potter reference in their beautiful wedding styling.

Images were captured by Photography by Charli.

Charli is a Documentary Style Wedding Photographer and Film Maker, based in Yorkshire, but travelling all over the UK.

Her style of photography is relaxed, informal with a huge element of fun.

I hand over to beautiful Bride, Nicola…

How did you meet?

We met at Newcastle University. David lived with one of my best friends.

We meet briefly in the first month of university, but it wasn’t until the end of our 3 years there that we started to get to know each other and we became a couple.

Tell us about the Proposal…

We got engaged on the 12th November 2016 at Loch Ness in Scotland.

We were visiting Castle Urquhart on the Loch and David had decided to propose at the top most tower.

We spent all day looking round the ruins (David having strategically suggested we look at the tower last) but once we were up there it was so full of people that there wasn’t room to propose.

Knowing nothing about the proposal I set off back downstairs (I had seen enough!) forcing David to propose at the bottom.

Neither of us can remember what he said, he was so nervous and I was so shocked!

It was the most beautiful location and I can’t wait to go back when we have been married 25 years!

He finished off the day with table reservations at the snootiest restaurant ever.

Tell us about your wedding planning journey …

The journey was a quick one.

The proposal to the wedding day was approximately 11 months.

I had been waiting for a proposal for a long long time, so when it happened it was full steam ahead for me.

Within the first week I had booked a photographer, hair dresser and make-up artist.

Any special touches/DIY?

On each table was instructions that 10 lego men were hidden around the marquee and to find one got you a free drink at the bar!

We didn’t anticipate how much our guests would enjoy this but they really loved it.

My favourite animal is ducks and the table names were all types of duck (Donald, Daffy, Rubber etc.)

We also had military vehicles as wedding cars (provided for by family friends.)

What was the theme /colour palette of your Big Day?

I suppose our theme just tied in with the time of year and our colour scheme/decorations were all autumnal.

We had the most beautiful autumnal flowers surrounded by acorns, fir cones, conkers etc

What was the best bit of your day?

I can’t decide between two and both were unexpected.

The speeches were absolutely incredible and lots of people mentioned how good they were.

The second moment for me was the first dance.

We danced to Mumford and Sons ‘Lover of the Light’ and it honestly felt like we were alone in the room when we danced to it, it was amazing.

Is there anything you would do differently?

It’s hard to think of anything!

The only thing that comes to mind is to take some wedding cake home the night of the wedding so you could eat it for breakfast.

We went straight on our honeymoon the next morning and sadly didn’t get to try any of our cake.

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Don’t stress out – if a wedding goes perfectly there will be no stories to tell.

Do not spend a fortune on bridesmaids’ dresses.

A dress may not look much but once your ladies have their hair and makeup done and have a bouquet they will look the part and look fantastic.
