Today I am excited to share the really pretty handmade and vintage inspired Aberdeen Wedding of Anna and Keith.
Images were captured by KAD Photography at Marischal College in Aberdeen, then Kirkton Hall.
I hand over to gorgeous Bride Anna, who tells us all about their beautifully crafted day…
“I think Keith learned very early on that I’m quite unique!”
“I’ve a very quirky taste in jewellery, clothes and my whole look is inspired by the glamour and simplicity of the 1940s and 1950s.”
“We wanted a wedding that was personal and captured us as a couple, and I was really inspired by a visit to the Vintage Wedding Fair not long after we got engaged.”
“Following that, I poured over pinterest and Wedding Blogs to get inspiration for our Big Day.”
“Our ceremony venue was the second largest granite building in the world – Marischal College in Aberdeen; a special place for me as I graduated there twice, as did four of my family members.”
“Our reception venue was Kirkton Hall close to my childhood home which holds many happy memories of my grandparents who are sadly no longer with us.”
“Our reception décor was a family affair, we all decorated it the day before the wedding.”
“Despite being a science teacher, I don’t really like fresh flowers, so my sister crocheted me over 100 wool roses which adorned the tables in vintage tins. She also crocheted bright vintage doilies.”
“I wanted soft lighting so decorated over 50 jars (collected by friends and family) with linen and lace in varying styles. These housed tea lights to give us an intimate, warm feel.”
“The flowers and jars were given height by stacks of vintage books provided by A Vintage Teaparty crockery hire.”
“We also hired vintage table cloths to break up the stark white linen on all the tables.”
“My mum and I hand tied organza fabric in pastel shades of ivory, lilac and cornflower on all the chairs.”
“The walls were adorned with bunting and pastel pom poms hand made by the Groom.”
“Our table centres were large glass vintage jars lit with fairy lights, also made by us.”
“The vintage theme continued with our table names – all my favourite Audrey Hepburn films. I mounted original movie postcards on card backing as the table identifiers.”
“Each guest had a vintage crockery trio and the mix and match effect of this was stunning.”
“The evening went with a swing thanks to Edinburgh based gypsy swing band Viper Swing who were simply WOW!”
“To entertain our guests, we also had a sweetie carousel loaded with all the old favourites like love hearts, fish and chips and other sweet goodies.”
“Handmade, personalised sweet bags and a chalk board sign made by myself finished this off perfectly.”
“The iced tea station proved a big hit with old honey jars as drinking glasses, spotty straws and kilner dispensers.”
“Our guest book was great fun and provided us with an informal record of the big day.”
For our table plan we used a wire photo holder to hold vintage luggage tags with each guests name and table on them. Each tag was hand written and decorated by us using lace and paper flowers.”
“A hand made sign invited guests to swap their name for a photo using an instant camera housed in a hand decorated decoupatch box (again by the myself).”
“Hand made decoupatch lettering adorned both the top table and the cake table.”
“The cake was a top tier of our favourite coconut sponge then a mixture of coconut, carrot and chocolate cupcakes decorated in an ivory flower theme.”
“Our amazing food was provided by a well known local/Scottish caterer and was divine.”
“My dress was custom made by Lady JoJo’s vintage boutique in Edinburgh. It was styled on a 1950’s prom dress with full lace overlay and ¾ sleeves.”
“My bridesmaids also had 50s style dresses and were given free rein to modify them. They opted for slightly different sleeves and my maid of honour (my sister) had contrasting rouching round the bust. These were also made to order by Lady JoJos.”
“My hair piece was selected from Lily Luna (Edinburgh) to match the lace on my dress. The Maid of honour’s hair piece also came from there.”
“A Wedding gift from my father was a pair of sparkling Jimmy Choos.”
“Sticking with the vintage theme, all bouquets and button holes were button and brooch. And all hand made by myself.”
“I took a course of lessons at Bead Pop in Aberdeen to make my own bouquet before putting these skills to use to make everything else.”
“My outfit was finished off with an authentic 1950s evening purse with embellishment purchased from Louise Pringle (Eclectic Shock jewellery).”
We wanted a day that was special and reflected our love for each other.”
The investment of time from everyone involved was huge, but it was worth every second!”
“All our guests commented on the fact that our Wedding was about us, not the pomp and ceremony which often finds the true meaning of a wedding getting lost.”
Thank you so much to the couple for sharing their exceptional creative flair with so much thought put into each handcrafted detail.
I particularly love the really beautiful crocheted roses and Audrey Hepburn inspired tables.
I also love the table plan idea with replacing names with photos, so simple but incredibly effective.
Thank you also to Kelly for sharing her incredible imagery from this brilliant Aberdeen Wedding.
