A stunning intimate Edinburgh Wedding with beautiful burgundy and red tones at the Signet Library

Today I am thrilled to share a stunning intimate Edinburgh Wedding with beautiful burgundy and red tones at the Signet Library.

And though Covid made the celebration of Claire and Scot smaller it was still mighty in its beauty.

I hand over to beautiful Bride Claire to share the couples love story, and tell us about their wonderful intimate Edinburgh wedding day…

How did you meet?

We met via mutual friends who are married to each other.

Scot was Craig’s best man when he married my friend Debbie & Craig would return the favour at our wedding.

Tell us about the Proposal…

Scot proposed to me in June 2019 at Hesleyside Huts in the Northumbrian countryside.

Northumbria is a special place to both of us & a small, intimate proposal in our wellies seemed perfect.

My engagement ring was made by the fantastic Sally Grant Jewellery.

Tell us about your wedding planning journey…

We fell in love with the Signet Library in Edinburgh after visiting for afternoon tea, it was the only venue we viewed!

Edinburgh is so special to us as we went on our first date there & regularly visit.

We are both efficient organisers & were able to book all our vendors with a minimum of fuss.

I had a big folder with loads of ideas in it & we worked as a team. We didn’t really know what all the fuss was about….until Covid arrived!

How did Covid impact on your plans?

We made the decision to reschedule the full wedding in March 2020.

Our initial date was the 19th of September 2020 & fortunately, we were able to move it to the 15th of May 2021.

All our vendors were extremely thoughtful & accommodating.

Due to Covid restrictions we were limited to 20 guests & an 8pm cut off but we were allowed alcohol, which was seen as a big win!

Our wedding was the first to take place in the Signet Library since the start of the Covid pandemic so it was such a special occasion, not only for us, but everyone involved.

Our amazing celebrant Kathryn Hansen was always there for support & Emma Lawson Photography & Leven Films captured our day.

The brilliant Planet Flowers provided all the amazing decor & we were lucky to have Capella String Quartet on hand to provided added ambience & entertainment.

Any special touches/DIY?

Planet Flowers were able to get their hands on some fantastic proteas for Claire’s bouquet as well as the individual flower arrangements.

My grandmother lived in South Africa and she wanted to honour her memory by including the national flower in our big day.

All guests received an Edinburgh goodie bag which contained a funky Edinburgh postcard, some Edinburgh rock & a scented candle named after a specific part of the city.

We had a custom wooden cake topper which was made by Crafting Bird UK on Etsy. It depicted us in our wedding finery with our cat, Luna, who was on her holidays at the time.

What was the theme / colour palette of your Big Day?

Plenty of flowers both inside and outside the venue were important and a combination of greens, pinks and reds complimented the venue.

We wanted the florals to be romantic & also have plenty of candles on display to make the setting more intimate.

Signet is so beautiful and we felt it was important to add our own personal touch without distracting from the beauty of the building.

We did initially have the lower library set aside for the service & the upper library set aside for the reception but consolidated everything into the lower library when we had to reduce our guest numbers.

We did still use the whole venue for our photographs & the incredible painted ceiling in the upper library is featured.

What was the best bit of your day?

Finally getting married after having to postpone meant our intimate Edinburgh Wedding had such a special significance.

From arriving on the Royal Mile to facing each other at the alter, walking through the streets for our photographs to our amazing afternoon tea which we had instead of a traditional meal. Everything was memorable.

The temperamental Scottish weather also held out as well & we even got a beautiful sunset.

What advice would you give to other couples getting married?

Work together as a team. This day is for both of you! If things have to be changed, or altered, at short notice, try to embrace it & keep smiling.

Things always work out in the end & you will get the day you dreamed of.
