Today I am thrilled to share a gorgeous Edinburgh Botanics Wedding with a Fairy Twist.
Kathyrn and Chris got married on a lovely Spring Day and images were captured by Jo Donaldson Photography, with second shooting by Fiona Watson.
Jo is a Wedding Photographer based in Glasgow…
She says of her work…
“I’m a killer for romance – even if that romance is getting a coffee made for you in the morning!”
“I love getting to know my couples and never want to turn up to a wedding and feel like I don’t know you.”
“I adore taking creative photographs of people – catching a moment that passes in the blink of an eye, the emotion of a moment that may otherwise be forgotten. To me, it’s pretty magic.”
“If you’re looking for a relaxed, friendly and fun photographer that can create romantic images then I’m your gal.”
Jo shares her recollections of a beautiful day…
“An Edinburgh Botanics Wedding is always a treat on a nice day, there are so many places to adventure!”
“Kathryn had me hooked from her first email – “our wedding is what we want and not what people expect.”
“Current thinking is a bit of a fairy theme to bring a bit of magic and wonder into the day for everyone!”
“Well that had me hooked!”
“On the day my good friend Fiona spent the morning with the boys (and Boris the cat!) whilst I travelled to the centre of Edinburgh for the bridal prep.”
“I loved the intricate detail of Kathryn’s dress, and her red Irregular Choice shoes were a treat for the eyes!”
“They decided to have flower fairies instead of flower girls which looked so cute – I definitely had fairy wing envy.”
“Kathryn and Chris chose to have an interfaith ceremony under the redwoods at the Botanics, and it was just magical.”
“Their guests were given fairy wands to wave which went down very well with the children…and the adults too.”
“After the ‘I do’s’ we took a saunter to the Glasshouses.”
“I was so, so in love with shooting them in there due to the beaut green foliage and wildness of it, they looked bloomin marvellous.”
“The kinda scene that makes a photographers heart sing!”
“On a side-note, and a beautiful touch from Chris – during the speeches he presented Kathryn with a brand new, updated version of her much beloved ‘Grumpy Bear’.”
“I’m sure original Grumpy Bear won’t mind the company.”
“Kathryn had also poured her heart into the centrepieces, individually creating mini planetariums for each table. I so wanted one for my flat haha!”
“Self confessed lovers of a power ballad, they went for it in their first dance, doing their own patented ‘Kathryn & Chris’ moves much to their guests, and our delight.”
“All in all, a blooming magic day!”
I now pass over to Bride Kathryn to hare the couples story…
How did you meet?
“We met on the dating site, Match.com and got engaged on November 2014”
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
“I wanted the date to be significant and he wanted to make sure his brother could travel in from Australia.”
“Somewhere in the midst of that we got 02.04.16.”
“I like the number pattern, and his brother was able to fly in without breaking the bank.”
“Co-incidentally it was also my mums birthday.”
“In terms of the planning it just came together.”
“I knew I wanted to be hands in crafty for the day and I didn’t want to stress out sourcing and making us and the day something that we’re not.”
“We wanted it to be real and a reflection of us.”
“I found the services and did the crafts, Chris managed the budget.”
“Lucky we were quite chilled about the day.”
“My beautiful maid of honour was taken sick and couldn’t attend but I was able to find some lovely ladies to support me in the day in her absence.”
What was the best bit of your day?
“It’s hard to say it was bizarre in a good way but people waving the wishing wands when we self pronounced ourselves married was magical.”
“The bells and the smiles and nature just amazing.”
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
“Do what you want to do. It’s your day and it goes by quickly.”
“Don’t bust a gut pleasing others. Try and enjoy the process, it’s pretty much a part of the whole build up.”
“Delegate where you can, you are not superwoman / superman and will require sleep and people are only too happy to help.”
Thank you so much to Jo for sharing this stunning Edinburgh Botanics Wedding.
Its a wonderful place with many special personal memories for me.
Such a glorious setting in lovely parkland with pretty trees and gardens as far as the eye can see.
Love the colourful wands and beautiful centrepieces, Kathryn has put a lot of work into making lovely fairy inspired touches.
