Autumn Leaves – A Beautiful Barn Wedding – Images by Brick Lane Studios

Today on the Blog I am thrilled to share this beautiful late autumn Barn Wedding captured by Brick Lane Studios, York.

I have been speaking to lovely Bride Georgia for most of this year after being introduced through her mum, the talented Triflerabbit on Twitter and it gives me great pleasure to share her Wedding Day.

This amazing Big Day late last October was held at Southend Barns, Chichester.

I hand over to the gorgeous Bride Georgia to share her love story,

How did you Meet ?

“We met in October 2009 in Portsmouth.  I was living in York at the time and Steve was living in Portsmouth.”

“I had recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and so one of my friends and I decided to go on a ‘South Coast road trip’ for a week to give me time to recover from my operation and the subsequent news.”

“We visited Devon, Lyme Regis, Bournemouth, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth.”

“In Portsmouth we met up with someone my friend had met in Chamonix and, to cut a long story short, he introduced us to his friend, Steve……..”

“We spent the rest of the evening talking, watching rubbish films and playing vodka drinking games and we both seemed to like each other!”

“Two weeks later Steve came to visit me in York and then we spent the next two months travelling up and down the country between York and Portsmouth to see each other at weekends.”

“Then on New Year’s Day, in Rome, we decided that I would move down to Portsmouth and move in with Steve.”

“The day after I moved in we went to Australia for a month and travelled from Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane in a campervan!”

“Since then we have bought our own house which is a big project, got two lovely cats, had some fabulous holidays and then, three years after we got together, got married!”

When and how did you get engaged?

“We got engaged in Ibiza the evening before my 30th birthday!”

“Steve had taken me away for a few days for my birthday, and I didn’t know where we were going until we boarded the plane (although all was nearly revealed when he had his hand-luggage searched)!”

“He proposed on the beach after dinner and then we went to Cafe Del Mar for a drink to celebrate.”

“We didn’t tell any of our friends and family for 3 days after that as we waited to tell our families in person at my 3oth birthday party!”

Tell me about your Planning journey.

“We started planning the wedding seriously in April 2012 so only had 6 months to do everything.”

“We also had a relatively tight budget to keep to and wanted to do as much as possible ourselves.”

“We both had a rough idea of what we wanted – it was important to us to have our family and friends there and above all for everyone to have a fun day.”

“We looked at lots of different types of venues but both loved the idea of a barn.”

“We had all but chosen one when we heard about a venue in Chichester which hadn’t opened yet and was still in the process of being renovated.”

“We went to view it and both knew immediately that Southend Barns was the place we wanted to get married!”

“Once the venue was booked and the date set we started making decisions about colour schemes, bridesmaids, menus etc etc.”

“We were very organised with lists and spreadsheets for budgets and things to do, so we just ticked them off one thing at a time.”

“We were also lucky enough to have friends and family who could help out with some of the details.”

“We kept some parts of the wedding relatively traditional but we also had some nice twists.”

“We had a reading by my step-dad during the ceremony which was by Dr Seuss, our wedding cake was a chocolate and Guinness sponge, and our first dance even had a bit of a surprise element!”

When was your Wedding Date?

“Our Wedding Day was Saturday 27th October 2012 – this was the weekend of our 3 year anniversary of getting together.”

The Wedding Day Look

“The Groom, Best man, usher and page boy all wore dark grey ¾ length suits with tails.”

“They had royal blue cravats and burnt orange calla lily button holes.”

“I gave Steve some cufflinks as his wedding present from me which were blue circuit boards (as he can be a bit of a techie geek) – so he also wore those.”

“The bridesmaids’ dresses were a beautiful royal blue to match the groomsmens’ cravats and the bouquets were also burnt orange calla lilies.”

“The bridesmaids all wore their own shoes in pale gold so they could choose the height heel that they felt most comfortable in.”

“We had a slight theme of ‘leaves’ going through the wedding (on the invite, cake etc) – so we bought each of our bridesmaids a silver leaf pendant on a silver chain to wear.  The flower girl also wore an ivory dress.”

“I tried on a lot of different wedding dresses in different styles (including some that I didn’t think I would like).”

“About 6 months before the wedding my mum bought me a dress which was gorgeous but had to be altered to fit – unfortunately when it was altered it just didn’t look right and so a week before the wedding I had to choose an entirely new dress!”

“Amanda at Proposals was fabulous and patient and so helpful.”

“I tried on lots of other dresses (at this stage in  a  bit of a panic) and nothing was right.”

“Then one of the ladies in Proposals got out my dress – it had just come into the store. When I saw it, it took my breath away and I knew it was the one I was meant to have all along.  When I tried it on I felt amazing!”

“It was by Novia D’art, a Spanish wedding dress designer and it had everything I wanted from a wedding dress.”

“It was traditional but with a vintage feel, strapless with a sweetheart neckline but not too low-cut, it had the structured bodice with criss-crossed material and a small amount of detail around the waist without being too ‘blingy’.”

“It was A-line with a small train and had lovely movement to it – AND it was a perfect fit without any alterations!  I truly think it was meant to be…..”

“In the evening I also had a gorgeous feather bolero to wear over my shoulders.”

“My shoes were from Rachel Simpson – they were called ‘Agnes’ and were ivory and champagne with a ribbon tie, a peep toe and with a slight vintage feel.”

“My jewellery was a combination of simple new earrings and necklace and a borrowed vintage bracelet from my mum.”

“My tiara was a bespoke one made for me by Triflerabbit (My Mum) – it was made from vintage marcasite brooches and was totally stunning.”

Triflerabbit also made me second, slightly smaller and more sparkly one, for the evening.”

“Our bridesmaids (including the flower girl) all wore bespoke tiaras made by Triflerabbit also.”

What was the best bit of your day?

“We love all of it!  But if I had to choose – exchanging our vows and the speeches by my new husband and my Dad.”

“Steve’s favourite part of the day was looking at me when making his vows.”

What advice would you give to other Brides and Grooms ?

“Make a list at the beginning of what you want from your wedding and keep that in mind throughout the planning process.”

“Put together a realistic budget.  When you decide on something you want there is always a way to get it a bit cheaper if you’re creative.”

“You don’t need to spend years planning it – if we had we would probably have spent lots more money and ended up changing our minds about things which turned out to be just right anyway.”

To sum up your day….

“Overall the whole day was perfect – it had the right balance of being emotional, relaxed and fun.”

“We were overwhelmed by comments from the guests saying how much they enjoyed the day, the venue, the food, the ceremony, the band etc.”

“Everything went smoothly, and, despite the fact it was the end of October, the sun shone for the majority of the day!”

“After the wedding we also still had the excitement of the honeymoon as we had decided not to book it until the last minute as we had been so busy organising the wedding.”

“So a couple of days after the wedding we sat down and booked a last minute honeymoon to Antigua and jetted off for a week in paradise 48 hours later…perfection!”
